Michigan: The closest race getting the least attention
Washington Post ^ | September 30 2014 | Jennifer Rubin

The Iowa, Colorado, Kansas and North Carolina Senate races, to name four, are getting plenty of attention. But keep an eye on Michigan where in a blue state GOP candidate Terri Lynn Land is in a statistical tie with Rep. Gary Peters (D-Mich.). RealClearPolitics has the race as a tossup, with the last two public polls showing Peters with a 2 or 3 point lead. Charlie Cook also shows the race to be a tossup.

Personally I think Land is actually harmed more by Snyder than helped. He's just too darn liberal.

I agree, I would not be surprised to see both Snyder and Land loose.

I also think her ads are stupid...

Pay attention republicans. Staying on the offense has helped Terri Land. She's done very well considering the fact that she's a primary target of Tom Steyer money. Lets not forget how Pete Hoekstra ran an aggressive primary race, then took a nap for the general.

What?? I’ve seen two polls recently (good polls) that had Land down by almost double digits. Is this a time warp?

I’m pretty much ignoring the wrist slitters at this point.

Land has done exceptionally well considering the fact that she’s facing the full brunt of the democrat party and their big money donors. Tom Steyer dumped some $5 million in PAC money into this race and Peters still can’t pull away.

I’m not thrilled with Snyder but democrat Mark Schauer is as rabidly far left as Nancy Pelosi or Elizabeth Warren.

Here is the Real Clear Politics data as of 1 October. No polls in the last two weeks. But it is closer than I thought.

The advantage should go to the GOP based on the fact that they hold all 3 branches of state government and the majority of congressional districts are GOP held.

Its also important to note that the SOS and AG have been very aggressive in going after vote fraud. We’ve also got new laws that require oversight of traditionally problem voting precincts. (there will be state auditors keeping watch in places like Detroit and Flint)

That’s great news. Land doesn’t seem too TEA-connected; wonder who she will bring in towards the end of the month to stump with her?

Agreed...last poll I saw had her down nine or ten points. I guess I stopped paying attention. All I know is Peters is a socialist dickhead.

I also think her ads are stupid...

Indeed they are, makes me think her ad strategist might be a closet lib...or just an idiot.

They should be matching ad-for-ad Koch brothers with George "I'm having a very good(2008 financial) crisis" Soros.

...and stop with the close-up, slo-mo, smiling face ad...first time I saw it I thought it was from the DNC.

She obviously has my vote in Nov., but Peters was ripe for a beat-down, the only thing that could stop that was(other than Detroit/Wayne Cnty voter fraud)...a weak/feckless Rep. candidate/campaign.

The Party of Stupid may(yet again)shat the bed on yet another important Senate seat opportunity.

She has talked to tea party groups and hasn’t been antagonistic toward us. She’s got an establishment pedigree but doesn’t always walk the party line.

Personally I think she’s light years better than the democrats and a step in the right direction for the GOP.

I guess what I’m trying to ask is maybe a little stumping with Cruz at the end of the month might harvest enough additional TEA votes to put her above the margin of error?

Yeah, even a few words from Cruz would probably help.

Bill Bennett had her on his show the other day. Hopefully, she’ll get some money for her campaign from his audience. She’s done a lot to downsize government in the positions she’s held. She took one office she held in Grand Rapids from a full time to a part time position and she streamlined the Secretary of State’s office in Michigan and made it more efficient. I think she’d make a wonderful Senator.

She’s not perfect but she’s definitely for smaller government. Everyone I’ve spoken to who has met her say that she oozes integrity.

My dad has said the same thing, and that’s rare coming from him. Real rare. He’s probably one of the most thoughtful, well reasoned people I know and he doesn’t use the word “integrity” when describing an elected official very often. He would know about her better than me as she held a public office in his town. I was impressed with her as SOS.
