The Difference Between Winners And Whiners: The midterms will provide a valuable object lesson
The American Spectator ^ | September 29, 2014 | David Catron

Democrats think conservatives in general, and Tea Partiers in particular, are stupid. Here’s how to reinforce that belief: Sit out the 2014 congressional elections because your favorite candidate lost his primary bid to an establishment Republican. If you live in Kansas, for example, you can suck your thumb while Democrat ringer Greg Orman beats Republican Senator Pat Roberts. If you’re a Kentucky conservative, you can stay home and bitch about Mitch while Alison “Rubberstamp” Grimes heads to Washington. If you’re in Mississippi, you can stay mad at Thad and allow Travis “no repeal” Childers to win. That’ll show those RINOs!

It isn’t necessary to speculate about the results of such petulance. We are already suffering the consequences of a similar tantrum. As R. Emmett Tyrrell pointed out last week, about 4 million conservatives declined to participate in the 2012 presidential election: “The wise psephologists tell us that these conservatives did not like Romney. He was too bland for the Tea Partiers.… Frankly, I do not know why they stayed home given the choice between a community organizer and a former governor.” Regardless of the rationale, those abstainers are responsible for the domestic corruption and foreign policy disasters of the last two years....

"It’s tea parties who won’t vote who are stupid. Keeping the senate power in demoncrat hands is really really stupid."

I believe anyone who would vote for Cochran after what he did is totally devoid of principle or any moral conscience whatsoever.... Just like good old Thad himself...in MHO :)

We also need, as I’ve said many times, a pre-party convention to choose nominees to appear on the ballot and weed out the kooks, the phonies and the ringers (and with that, out goes Willard, McQueeg, Lamar! & Thad the Cad). I don’t think we should even have candidates declaring to run, they should be popularly drafted, called upon to run. 9 out of 10 people that choose to run are usually the last people I’d ever want to see in office, and that’s probably understating it.

Well, Georgia did elect that RED Carter... three times (1970, 1976 and 1980). But think about it for a minute, when you say you want to keep Georgia RED... As a Conservative, think about it. The international color of Conservatism is blue. Red is the international color of fascism/totalitarianism/communism/leftism. Soviet Union Red, Red China, Vietnam, Nazi Germany, all Red-Socialist nations with a Red flag. The literal absurdity of being a Conservative and wanting a state to be Red. Again, think about it.

It’s time to shove that “Red” color back in the faces of the REAL Reds in this country, starting with that Maoist Jackass Red in the White House. Blue is our color, take it back !

I guess the first thing to establish is I’m a constitutionalist, Tea Party Conservative, a Ted Cruze and Mike Lee Conservative. That means, it wasn’t my “beloved GOP” that ran a candidate that managed to win the primary.

It was your opinion of that candidate along with three million nine hundred and ninety nine other folks trying to teach the GOP a lesson, which is a whole other story and the reason we now twice have the worst President at any time in our history, other than perhaps Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter combined.

I think I know how you feel about candidates you don’t happen to like with an R behind their name that are not pure as the wind driven snow and don’t pass your smell test but feelings and reality are two different issues, and now you know how the vast majority of the rest of us feel having been kneecapped by the feelings of a very small minority who just can’t deal with reality.

You are a Vet and I respect that, so am I and I would still go into battle to protect your right to say and do what you feel is right according to your conscience, but from my perspective and the perspective of millions upon millions of voters who were hoping beyond hope to hog tie this piece of work we now have for a president, the ill cast votes or no votes of a very few have sunk us all to a new low, from which we now hope to recover in 2014.

Just to keep things in perspective, in my state we have almost the identical problem in the Senate race, with four candidates in the General Election, one dem two independents one of which is a flaming ex republican US Senator so far left he might as well be a democrat, a true conservative Republican running as an independent, and the coronation republican candidate who talks a great line but eight years as Governor has proven him to be a big spending government growing mainstream republican.

I feel your pain, because now I’m facing the same situation you did, that in this case could decide what party controls the US Senate for the next few years. A wrong vote could send a democrat to the Senate, or an Independent who would be a work across the aisle kind of guy because in his opinion Congress is broken. Or we end up with a mushy Republican in an attempt to vote for the true Republican. I still don’t know which trigger I’ll pull and the risks are high no matter how I vote because the race is really up for grabs.

According to Wita, you MUST(!) vote Republican in the general regardless of how odious, disgusting and deceitful “you think” the nominee is.

I’m sure you believe everything presented to you by the media.

What I really said in not so many words was you better be able to consider the consequences of your vote or lack of.

That would only work if both had contested primaries, otherwise the Dems would engage in chicanery with our side as per usual. But we need to REGISTER voters by party and enact runoffs for less than 50%. No more plurality victories by people reflecting only a minority of the base voter preference.

It is interesting how many folks take themselves out of the election process by not understanding that in some states if you are not registered as a dem or rep, you can’t vote in the party primary.

There are eleven states with open primaries, eleven with closed primaries and the rest have a mix of open and closed.

I wouldn’t argue against your ideas, unfortunately your State Legislature is in charge of election law, and getting states to enact runoff law where the primary winner must have at least 50 percent of the vote could be a tough one in some states.

In this case I’m moved to comment “what difference does it make” the results are in, and they are universally horrible, unlike the original choice.

When one chooses poorly, millions in this case suffer the consequences, regardless of purity of motive.

Some people see reality, some people lie to themselves. The “you think” augmentation of my statement demonstrates that latter observation thoroughly.

Well you chose not to be specific which left me to assume who you were referring too. I think I know, but I’m thinking when the two of you meet at the bar, obviously someone is going to be eating crow. We’ll have to wait and see. You think you know, I don’t think you have a clue, and it won’t be solved to your satisfaction until a personal meeting. By then it may all be forgotten or forgiven anyway. Time will tell.

Meanwhile reality is Barack Obama, and that isn’t going away anytime soon.

What “specific” are you looking for ? The specifics on the last two execrable RINO ringers put up by the establishment for President were right out there. Some folks chose to see, some folks didn’t. To make it plainer for you, I support only candidates whose rhetoric matches their record, and both have to be Conservative. I will not vote for fakes, liars, ringers or left-wingers.

If you do stay home, you are (to me) a stupid conservative. So a conservative didn’t beat a 70% conservative, so you are going to sit out and let a 0% conservative get elected. Jeez, have a great temper tantrum, but I hope ADULTS will vote.

How old are you to have temper tantrums? 2? Jeez, I hold my nose and voted for Mitt. ANY OTHER VOTE WOULD HELP ELECT OBAMA! I didn’t for Obama, I was an ADULT. Was Mitt my choice? Hell no, but the last time I voted 3rd party was 1996, I will never help a Dem win.

He voted for Dems indirectly. He has temper tantrums if a conservative candidate don’t get nominated.

The Constitution Party? Where do they have their national convention? In a phone booth? Indirectly, you and all you third party types (and I was a libertarian member) help hand elections to liberals. You aren’t a conservative...if you were you would DEFEAT Obama, not ELECT him.

That's the GOPe blind-spot.

They still believe that the process is that they get to pick their electorate.

This is a fight over the voters choosing their representatives vs. the elite choosing their voters.

The voters must win or our elections will be a charade.
