Senator John McCain (R., Ariz.) touted former governor Jeb Bush (R., Fla.) as a potential contender in the 2016 presidential elections while discussing the merits of nominating a governor as opposed to a senator.
I think that governors who are successful obviously have a cachet that is probably helpful to them, particularly, since the Congress is held in low esteem, McCain tells National Review Online. I think there will be some who are very competitive, including Jeb Bush if he decides to run.
McCain says he hadnt decided to back Bush. I keep hearing that he may be considering a runs and he was a successful governor of the state of Florida, he says. I like him. I havent decided obviously, but I think he would be viable.
Asked if he thought that Republicans might hesitate to nominate a freshman senator in light Obamas performance, McCain says no.
I dont think that thats particularly relevant to be honest with you, he says.
Former governor Mike Huckabee (R., Ark.), who is mulling a presidential run, told reporters Monday that the Republican party needs to avoid nominating a senator.
If not me, I would be supportive of someone who has had executive experience and who has been a governor prior to somebody having only had legislative experience, which I think is fundamentally different in the manner in which one serves, Huckabee said.
Governor Bobby Jindal (R., La.) followed the same logic while comparing Bill Clinton to President Obama.
I do think Bill Clinton, having served as a governor, I think that was better preparation for being president [than] simply being a senator, as weve seen with President Obama, Jindal told reporters at the Christian Science Monitor breakfast in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.
Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas), another likely candidate, brushed off that suggestion.
Im not sure its news that governors tend to prefer governors, Cruz told NRO Wednesday.
Considering that McCain touted Obama as a good candidate...
Is Mitt in his corner too?
Why should I care what John Mamone has to say, that’s like asking someone in the asylum for a definition of normal.
I sort of had that feeling too, but I was hoping JEB would stay home. I doubt the RINO elites will let him though. Romney and McCain were just place holders for them. Jeb is highest ranking member of the establishment elites’ most royal GOP family who is still able to run for president. The GOPe will move K street for him.
Jeb Bush has the potential to match McCain’s results - a loser but not by a huge margin. That’s not what the country needs right now. What we need is someone like Cruz (or Governor Palin), a real conservative who will restore constitutional government and the rule of law. Big government republicans who will simply slow the rate of growth of government are no longer even tolerable options - FedGov is an immediate danger to our freedom and must be cut.
Jeb Bush has as much potential as John McCain, which is 0.
It is obvious the MarxoFascist Democrats have NOTHING to be worried about in their quest for absolute power and control.
There is no opposition party and we have no representation in Washington aside from two or three individuals whom the Beast has targeted for destruction.
I become more convinced every single day that the Ruling Class GOP Establishment are actually MarxoFascist Democrat plants.
Look folks, wise up. Conservative Christians in Obama’s Amerika today are the Jews of yesterday’s 30’s Europe.
Wow. If you didn't already have enough reasons to run from the latest Booooosh That Won't Go The Hell Away, this oughtta put the last nail in the coffin. Juan "Lettuce" McBackStabbingAisleReachingRINO's electoral advice is at least as good as the Old Gray Ho's.
That’s good but my ‘NO’ is more emphatic than that.
So Jeb floats to the top of the punchbowl, who cares?
With the Republicans who were in office at that time riding herd on him legislatively....relatively speaking; if someone had regularly laced his Big Macs with salt petre, he might not have been too bad a president. (Spelling intentional, and correct).
We have nothing to fear from an Obama presidency...
Former first lady Barbara Bush says the country has ‘had enough Bushes’ when asked whether son Jeb should run for president
Barbara Bush, 87, said ‘there are other people out there that are very qualified’
And Ebola, er Osama, er Obama wasn’t even a working Senator to any great extent. He was just the selectee checking the boxes before elevation to the ultimate office.
McCain should be touting Sarah Palin and only Sarah Palin as she brought prople to the polls to vote for him.
That’ll happen right after Meghan is appointed to the Supreme Court and Lindsey comes out of the closet
Hey, Megan is no dimmer than about 44% of the existing court.
