Saying there will be no grand bargain in the House-Senate budget conference involving spending cuts to entitlement programs, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid claimed everyone is willing to pay more in taxes.
When asked by a Nevada Public Radio host what Republicans would have to concede to get Medicare and Social Security cuts on the table, Reid made it clear he is more interested in getting rid of the only cuts to actual spending seen thus far sequestration, as reported by Roll Call.
On sequestration, weve done one year of sequestration. It has been brutal, Reid said.
The only people who feel there shouldnt be more coming in to the federal government from the rich people are the Republicans in the Congress, Reid said. Everybody else, including the rich people, are willing to pay more. They want to pay more.
Never mind that the federal government is projected to collect more revenue in 2013 than ever before, as reported by The Hill.
The rich are willing to pay more, Reid added. Theyre not the ones out here saying, please dont tax me.
Reid then looked to moderate Republicans to assist Democrats in raising taxes, saying were going to have to have mainstream Republicans step up again.
Paging U.S. Sen. John McCain.
They have their mind set on doing nothing, nothing more on revenue, and until they get off that kick, theres not going to be a grand bargain on theres not going to be a small bargain, Reid said. Were just going to have to do something to work our way through sequestration.

Dingy’s slaves will riot.
Has nobody in this overpaid idiot's overpaid staff never explained to him that the “TEA” part of the TEA Party movement is “Taxed Enough Already”?
On a side note-all vendors to the USA Federal government are required to have a “Drug Free Workplace Program” in effect in order to do business with the Feds.
Most people don't know that our esteemed(high and low)elected members of government have seen fit to specifically exempt themselves from those policies.
Obama saying he doesn’t want to hear about spending cuts and now Reid talking about more taxes. I thought these guys promised that they would be glad to negotiate with the GOP as soon as they raised the debt limit and CR? People have already forgotten?
Does that “everyone” also include members of the U.S. Congress and their spouses? Nah, didn’t think so.
They have more money than ever?
Why would you raise Taxes if you have more money than ever?
Oh that’s right, so you can SPEND more money than ever. It never stopped them before, whether they had the money or not.
Silly me.
I guess in Obamanation I am not part of “everyone”. I suspect I am actually closer to “everyone” than Dingy Harry or his arrogant boob of a boss.
No I’m not. In fact I’m getting sick of the daily extortion from charities, Christmas funds, and hosts of others.
Hell no.. They won’t even pay for their own healthcare ;)
This jerk is as loony as Nazi Pelosi. I am not ready to pay more, however, I am MORE THAN READY for welfare leeches to pay.
I agree with you!
taxes are one thing
extortion used to insure capital to pay political allies is another
screw you, 0failure
Not this somebody.....
Hmmmm - I thought sequestration was triggered on 1 Mar 13. I guess 9 months is a year if you think you're blaming Repubs for what Dims did, but several months will be a blink if Dims are trying to fool the People that ObamaCare will be ready to go.
Being a Democrat must be fun! You can say (and do) the most asinine things, and the press reports it with a straight face, no questions asked.
Actually, Pinky, I’m not willing to pay more taxes so that political elite crooks like you can undermine my freedom and destroy the Republic.
Harry Reid is the biggest clown ever to come down the pike!
