Is there nobody who can tell Ted Cruz to shut up?
The young senator from Texas has been on the job for about 100 days, but he has already turned the Senates ancient seniority system upside down and is dominating his senior Republican colleagues. Hes speaking for them on immigration, guns and any other topic that tickles his fancy; Republican leaders are seething at being outshone yet are terrified of challenging him.
Consider his news conference this week to promote the Republican alternative to gun control. With Cruz on the stage in the Senate TV studio: the bills primary author, Chuck Grassley of Iowa, a 32-year Senate veteran and longtime chairman or ranking member of the finance and judiciary committees; Lindsey Graham of South Carolina (10 years in the Senate and eight in the House); and Dan Coats of Indiana (12 years in the Senate and eight in the House).
But Cruz took over the lectern and refused to relinquish it. He spoke 2,924 words for the cameras, more than Grassley (904), Graham (1,376) and Coats (360) combined. Factoring in his dramatic pauses to convey sincerity and deep thought, Cruzs dominance was even more lopsided. The others shifted uncomfortably and looked awkwardly around the room. At one point, Graham requested a chance to speak. Can I? he asked Cruz.
Cruz is 42, the same age Joe McCarthy was when he amassed power in the Senate with his allegations of communist infiltration....

If Cruz was a liberal spouting the liberal agenda, WaPo would be hailing him for his fearless dedication and calling him the next bright star for the nation.
One can only hope he’s the next McCarthy.
Dana makes cranky, bitter, gossiping old ladies look normal.
If Cruz is not offed by “the establishment” before then, he will be a serious contender for the presidency, if he wants it.
Heck, he’ll have far more experience than Obama did in 2008, and the experience will be a lot more than a litany of “present” votes.
An Instapundit reader came up with the absolutely perfect parallel to highlight the depravity and idiocy of the “42 year old” McCarthy analogy:
“Can I play? Obama is 51, the same age Joseph Stalin was when he called for the liquidation of the kulaks.”

Just more proof Sen. Cruz is doing a brilliant job, the metric for his success it the number of D.C. types he angers.
Hey Dana, though this may come as a shock to you, Joe McCarthy was right on the mark and so far Ted Cruz is too.
Unfortunately, Cruz was born in Canada and doesn't qualify.
Milbank sounds a bit concerned.
He is trying to sow unrest among the R’s by feigning concern over this upstart Senator.
GO TED GO!
When you google this, you get a bunch of links to sources that all refer to it as the “Grassley-Cruz substitute gun bill”. Those are the two names of origin for the bill and its introduction. The others were johnny-come-lately sign ons.
As between Grassley and Cruz, the lead senators, WHICH ONE would be the best presenter of this bill??
The answer is obvious.
That’s why Grassley, whose name is first, wanted the second name, Cruz, to present it.
Anybody doesn’t like it, check with Grassley, or go pound sand.
Stay out of the Tidal Basin, Ted. You're doing great.
I hope that Cruz runs for Governor. We should not have another Senator as President without being Governor first. They tend to suck!
>>Unfortunately, Cruz was born in Canada and doesn’t qualify.<<
As of 2008 being born abroad is no longer an impediment to the Presidency.
Kenya yes, Canada no?
Senator Chuck Grassley is an old Iowa farmer, and he looks and sounds like it, even with a $1,200 three-piece suit on. Not that there’s anything wrong with being an Iowa farmer, but Senator Ted Cruz is obviously more erudite and the smarter of the two.
“Cruz is 42, the same age Joe McCarthy was when he amassed power in the Senate with his allegations of communist infiltration.”
I guess it NEVER ends...but to correct again:
“Cruz is 42, the same age Joe McCarthy was when he amassed power in the Senate with his NOW-PROVEN allegations of communist infiltration. “
