The tributes to Margaret Thatcher in this country upon her passing were nice. But what America really needs is its own Margaret Thatcher.
In Republican circles theres great nostalgia for Ronald Reagan. Thatcher is seen as sort of Reagans sidekick, an ally in promoting democratic capitalism and taking a firm stance against Soviet expansionism. Not to diminish Reagan, who transformed American politics in ways that reverberate today, Thatcher actually had the tougher task.
Reagan had to restore the health of the American economy, which was plagued by high inflation and sluggish growth. But he had some fiscal headroom within which to operate. When Reagan became president, federal debt was just 33 percent of GDP. So, Reagan could cut tax rates without having to cut spending as well. The combination of supporting Fed Chairman Paul Volckers monetary tightening and the rate reductions got the economy moving again and on a healthy platform of sound money and a growth-oriented tax structure.
Reagan had ambitions to rein in federal spending and reform the federal government by devolving certain functions, principally welfare, to the states. He failed. But he didnt have to succeed on all fronts to succeed on any....

The media is so corrupt, anyone of that caliber that is on the platform will be demonized and castigated and run down until the communists win again.
The leftists intend to destroy this nation, and will stop at nothing.

Sometimes it's as if the Soviet Union never existed, much less that we woke up everyday not knowing that we would live through the day. Reagan earned his place as the man in history who ended the deadliest war in history and has so far allowed an entire generation to live without the threat of total Global ThermoNuclear Annihilation, and I'm hoping that it will stretch into two generations.
Reagan was one of the greatest war time leaders in history.

Very well said. I worked for him and I miss him as much as my late father. Another great man was General Haig, who has been smeared for an unclear comment he made, and also Director Casey, who helped President Reagan defeat the Soviets.

America HAS its own Margaret Thatcher — his name is Bill Whittle: a mix of Ronald Reagan and John Wayne.
