Ronald Reagan would approve of Mitt Romney’s choice for a vice presidential running mate if he were alive today, his son, Michael told Newsmax, as he called Paul Ryan's selection the Republican hopeful’s “first great move.”
Reagan, a Newsmax contributor added in an exclusive interview on Saturday that “I hope it’s the first of many great moves.”
He said that Wisconsin budget hawk Ryan will be able to stand toe-to-toe with President Barack Obama on key issues and will be a tremendous asset to a Romney administration with his expertise as chairman of the House Budget Committee.
“It shows that Mitt Romney’s willing to go outside the box of the normal and reach out and grab someone who really gets and understands what’s going on with the economy and how to fix it,” said Reagan.
He anticipates that Ryan will also breathe new life into the campaign, which had been struggling to regain momentum in recent weeks. “It’s going to really infuse some excitement and a lot of excitement probably within the conservative ranks,” he said.
Following the long and bitter primary struggle, some on the right have felt disconnected from Romney’s campaign. The decision to choose such a prominent conservative will undoubtedly resonate well with the right, according to Reagan.
“We all knew that he had to figure out a way to reach out to conservatives. What he did with this was show that he wants a vice president that can be an active vice president. He said Ryan fits the bill and is "not just a vice president who’s going to have lunch with him once a week, visit other countries, go to funerals, and sit in the Senate.”
Reagan said the choice was reminiscent of his father’s “Kitchen Cabinet” back in the 1980s...

My husband was hoping and praying that Rubio would get it, but Ryan was his second choice. He’s really happy about it.

I agree. I think Ronald would approve of Paul as the VP pick.
Even though Senator Rubio is not a natural born citizen? Neither is Governor Jindhal, for that matter.
Laughing to myself at how the idiot Ron Reagan Jr. probably goes around telling people “My Dad would have been a 100 percent Obama supporter...”.
Once again the bottom of the ticket is better than the top. It is an adequate choice.
No ‘pandering’ to hispanics(or women). We are not backing down with this pick. Biden cannot ‘scoff’ at his opponent like Lloyd Benston did with Quayle. I just don’t see how this country can re-elect the incumbent unless we’ve turned far leftward. If that’s the case we get what we deserve.
When you have a marshmallow at the top of the ticket, ANYTHING is an improvement. I have/had immense respect for President Reagan but am not sure he would agree with his son. We will see!
Ryan is an excellent choice for Veep. I just wish that we had someone else running for Prez. (sigh!)
I read a post at another site that essentially said that our side(Romney/Ryan) needs to put all their chips on the table regarding the state of the economy. And then to articulate this message in a way that any voter could understand. No more sugar coating the truth.
Then, if Obama still wins, the people will have made their choice.

You need to check your facts. They are both natural citizens. Rubio was born in Miami. Jindal was born in Baton Rouge. Their parents were immigrants from other countries.
They couldn’t legally be VP or President if they weren’t natural citizens - oh, sorry, unless you are the Messiah.
Neither set of parents were US citizens at the time of their birth. Yes, they are US citizens, no they are not natural born citizens, which is what it takes to be president or vice president, except when your name is Obama.

Their parents’ status was irrelevant!
Jindal and Rubio were citizens the moment they were naturally born in this country.

And why are you trying to disparage them because of their parents?
Seriously? We’ve been having this discussion since 2007 and you still haven’t gotten the word? And how am I disparaging their parents or them by stating a fact? I wish I had a $5 bill for every thread where we discussed this, there’d be a new car in my driveway.
