Texas leads the nation in minimum-wage jobs, and many positions don't offer health benefits. Also, steep budget cuts are expected to result in the loss of more than 100,000 jobs
Texas Has Most Minimum Wage Jobs -Drudge - June 20, 2011
From 2007 to 2010, the number of minimum wage workers in Texas rose from 221,000 to 550,000, an increase of nearly 150 percent.
Hmmm, perhaps a "cluster of carpers" or just "carper cluster" instead.
1st, if you have the most jobs you're going to have a lot of lower-paying jobs in the mix. By creating tons of new jobs and attracting companies and new businesses to your state, you'll have the whole range of jobs. There are fewer top-paying jobs in most companies than there are lower-paying jobs. But that's common-sense.
Also, (from The National Review Institute)
"Liberal Myth #1: Texas 8.2 percent unemployment is not exceptional At 2.2% a year, Texas is adding jobs at a rate faster than any state. But the states unemployment rate is still 8.2 percent, which is higher than blue states like Massachusetts and New York. How is this possible? Easy. Texas population is growing much faster than any other state. As Matthias Shapiro, creator of the popular 10,000 Pennies YouTube videos, points out, Texas has added 739,000 residents since the recession began. If Texas had the same population at the beginning of the recession that it does now, its unemployment rate would be 2.3%."
And
"Liberal Myth #2: Texas has only created low-paying jobs Texas median hourly wage is $15.14, which is actually slightly below the median (28th out of 51 regions). But wages in Texas have actually increased since the recession began. In fact, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data retrieved by Shapiro, since the recession started, hourly wages in Texas have increased at the 6th fastest pace in the nation. And National Reviews Kevin Williamson notes that Krugman flat out gets his number on the minimum wage wrong. It is 10% of Texas hourly workers that earn the minimum wage, while only 5% of salaried workers do."
[Bold is mine]
Nice to hear read some truth, isn't it? I find it's refreshing.
Oh yeah...one more thing.
You do know that you posted a link to the “Drudge Retort”, not the “Drudge Report”, don’t you?
I don’t think you get the same, uhm, content and political persuasion there.
Take a look at it. I mean it’s sub-head says “Red Meat for Liberals”.
Is that a mistake by you or did you mean to mislead?
Oops...I meant to ping you to this and #124, too.
But Texas has also seen a population boom since 2007. The number of working age residents grew by 6.6%, nearly twice the national average.
This explosive growth means that Texas would need to create another 629,000 jobs, or 5.6% more positions, just to reach its pre-recession employment level, when factoring in this population growth, according to the institute.
Goodnight.
Night.
What is this? You want me to read your posts and you won’t read mine?
Check post #123 again, under Liberal Myth #1.
That is a heck of a story! And why do you think the Texas population is booming, anyway?
Seriously. Not some lame talking point. I’d like an answer out of your own brain.
Why?
I don't have to hate an opponent to prefer a different candidate. I know you think the same way.
Gingrich has some baggage, but he has a great resume and has been willing to see an error in his thinking and change. The health care mandate comes to mind, but I also believe he's changed his thinking on global warming and Cap & Trade. He's been solid on Life, except for his latest faux pax and hopefully he will see his error and change his mind. He is so skillful he could be a transformational POTUS. My hesitation with him is what would he transform us into?
Perry, whom I prefer, is not the orator that Gingrich is. However, he is an executive with vision. He understands how to change things and is committed to a republican form of govt. I can see a 10 yr history as Gov. and reasonably expect that he will be a solid conservative that values the 10th Amendment. Also, Perry has served in the military a valuable experience for the CIC and he is not from the DC culture. He is an outsider.
If Gingrich is the nominee I will vote for him. I prefer Perry. He strikes me as the kind of man you can do business with on a hand shake.
It’s clearly the case that folks are pulling up stakes and rushing off to Texas to grab up all those low wage lousy benefit jobs and have been ever since Perry became Governor. Keep it up Perry, before long the rest of the country will be a ghost town.
Maybe a rhumba of rattlesnakes?
I kind of like the alliteration.
LOL...thanks.
I certainly can't say it any better than that.
Noted.
That's Exhibit A of how to create long lasting ill will on a public forum.
A Cradle of Crybabies?
A Well of Whiners?
A Batch of Bitchers?
A Nest of Nellies?
A Thicket of Thin-skinned?
A Horde of Haters?
I like the alliterations as well!
Your "rhumba of rattlesnakes" and Chasaway's "Nest of Nellies" are good!
There's also a bevy of babblers!
A multitude of misanthropes!
The Pouter Posse?
The Gripey Gang?
The Tattle-Tale Troop?
[We really gotta stop. But when does the contest actually end and what does the winner get?]
:)
Well, I don't know, but....
