Why not a Cain/Gingrich ticket?
us constitution ^ | today | self

Posted on 09/29/2011 1:39:38 PM PDT by Brookhaven

12th Amendment - US Constitution

The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves;...

Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich are both from Georgia.

This means that the Georgia electors can only vote for one (not both). Let's say it's a Cain/Gingrich ticket. They could vote for Cain as president, but not for Gingrich as VP.

If the election was tight, then this might mean nobody gets enough votes to be VP, throwing (I assume) the choice of who would be the VP into the Senate.

THAT WOULD BE AMAZING~!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would even be HAPPY with that

As much as I would be happy with a Palin/Bachman ticket

That ticket makes a lot of sense. I do not think Georgia’s electoral votes will be the deciding factor for Newt as VP.

This requirement pertains to residence at the time of the election. According to Wikipedia Newt currently resides in Mclean,VA.

Newt has some baggage but right now I’ll take almost anyone but Obama or Paul.

The two most intelligent candidates on the stage. I would prefer Newt/Cain, giving Cain a little experience for the next run. I guess one has to move to another state.

Because Gingrich would be on it.

I think a Cain Kasich ticket would be better. Delivers the swing state of Ohio.

Newt? The same Newt that said Left wing social engineering is the same as Right wing social engineering? Yeah, some of us still have memory cells. And Cain was against the offsets for the FEMA funding. I’m looking for the Republican that will do something novel and different, like... CUT THE D_MN GOVERNMENT!

As TWO Georgians they would have a blast!!

Double trouble for Congress - Newt would be a huge asset as VP.

I would be happy with that or a Cain/Santorum ticket. I mean can you imagine the “debate” between Newt and Biden?

That’s like killing a fly with a sledgehammer.

Dunno about that, since Kasich’s approval ratings are in the crapper.

Thanks to the fickle Ohio electorate.

Cain/Bolton!

As far as Newt, well even the Cain Train can only pull so much baggage!

I could live with a President Cain/V.P. Gingrich and a Tea Party Congress. Am still inclined to support Perry, but could happily campaign for Cain/Gingrich!

It’s good to see some creative thinking. We need to get to romney before he cleans up. Like the dims, romney is counting on support of the less politically active (AKA ignorant) GOP voters to gain momnetum. romney’s articulate performance in the debates and his disciplined campaign (he’s reeling a lot of dough) appeals to the mushy middle.

Let's keep Newt in the basement of some DC warehouse and doing what he does best. Pumping out ideas. We throw away the 80% that are bad and use the rest. I don't think having him out as the face of the party is a good thing. He carries more baggage than the bell hop at the Ritz Carlton.

  1. Because they are both from Georgia.
  2. Because Newt can't control his schlong. That may be resume enhancement for a Democrat, but it is the kiss of death for a Republican.

That’s like killing a fly with a sledgehammer.

Great analogy. Because most of the time you do that, you'll miss the fly and destroy whatever the fly had landed on.

I hadn’t thought of that, but you’re right, Newt may technically no longer be a resident of GA. It may all come down to where he has voted recently.

But he still talks about being from Georgia in his speeches.
