She holds the reins wrong and no, you shouldn’t lean back and hold the horn riding uphill. That said, she’s been ON a horse, and I doubt Obama knows one end from the other of a horse. He’d probably mount backwards, and then complain the back rest moves around too much...

I agree, BUT she is leaning back while walking up hill to have her photo taken , or is that too much for you to gather?
I suppose you would lean ahead for the photo just to not hold the saddle horn and look like a gobbler.LOL. Point? Sarah knows exactly what she is doing, and very gracefully too.
