New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he wont run for president in 2012 and declined to endorse the potential candidacy of Donald Trump, one of his constituents.
Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Mr. Bloomberg called Mr. Trump a friend and New York icon. But he criticized the idea of questioning whether President Barack Obama was born in the U.S., an issue that Mr. Trump has pressed.
The president was born here, Mr. Bloomberg said. I think the Republicans are making a terrible mistake in making this a big issue. Mr. Bloomberg said that if Republicans dont address larger issues such as the economy and immigration, they will lose and they deserve to lose.
Mr. Bloomberg noted that Mr. Trump isnt the only Republican challenging Mr. Obamas citizenship. This birther issue is more than one person, he said. There are a lot of roots that have glommed onto this.
Mr. Bloomberg also said, I am not running for president.
Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.), the Republican standard-bearer in 2008, also declined to endorse Mr. Trump....

This will have to be defined by SCOTUS eventually. I'm not holding my breath while Obama is in office, though they should rule on it post-haste.

At this point, defending Trump is the most patriotic thing I can do to thwart whatever brand of communism/socialism the Soros progressives are instituting.
