It’s easy to see why people think Donald Trump has become the Charlie Sheen of the Republican Party. Gluttons for attention, the two share a rare talent at self-promotion, self-delusion and self-immolation. And Sheen now proclaims himself a birther, in league with Trump’s crusade to promote a lie about President Obama that is also believed by nearly half of G.O.P voters.
But the more you watch Trump crash around the land, leaving shards of fabrication for the rest of us to sweep up, the more you realize who he’s really like: Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian prime minister who has served longer than any leader of his country since Mussolini goose-stepped over bell’Italia.
The surface matches are compelling. Hair plugs for Berlusconi, a pricey thatch of some sort for Trump. Berlusconi regularly insults women in public. Trump has also publically called at least one woman a “fat pig.” Berlusconi brought sexed-up game shows to Italian television. Trump has a silly “reality” show in which he plays a business mogul. Berlusconi, at 74, socializes with teenage girls. Just shy of his 60th birthday, the thrice-married Trump said that if then-24-year-old Ivanka Trump were not his daughter, “perhaps I’d be dating her.”
When I lived in New York, and later in Italy, I heard many people dismiss these men as a joke. They’re vulgarians — it’s all a sideshow of limos and pouty women with bee-sting lips. But an equally large segment of the population is strangely entranced by Trump and Berlusconi. If Trump is leading in some Republican polls, and Berlusconi still commands a large following despite being on trial for his latest sex scandal, what does it say about an enabling public?

The last Times reporter to attack Trump like this got nailed. I’m not sure why they published Trump’s reply, but they did. And it was a doozy.

At least Trump fires back at them. Most of the GOP just lie there and say kick me again.
Krauthammer was on Hannity tonight and he said Donald called him on the phone today and they had quite a chat. He said they discussed point and counter point Trump’s positions and other things. He also said he was struck by Trumps courteousness and earnestness. He told Trump there was another article coming out tomorrow that was harsher on Trump than the last one and Trump took it with grace. But I got the distinct feeling that The Donald had a positive impact on Krauthammer and he had seemed to soften a little toward Trump. Kraut thinks Donald is really going to run.
On Greta tonight I thought Trump was a lot more focused and his points are crisper. We will see.
I've never seen any news stories about Donald Trump going to the ER with a drug overdose.

Trump and half of all repub/conservatives are certifiably crazy because:
Obama has demonstrated he is a natural-born citizen per constitutional requirements. Wait, I guess not.
British subject, Indonesian adoptee? Foreign student? American naturalized citizen who posed as a foreign student for aid purposes? We’re all “birthers” even if we don’t suscribe to a neccessarily Kenyan birth. We’re just questioning his eligibility, whatever the ruse.
I’m not a huge Trump fan but he seems to be the only one addressing real issues: Obama’s BC, China running us over, us blowing billions on wars and not getting paid back for the effort, etc.
I don’t think any of the field can withstand the MSM heat other than Trump. Let’s see who shows up.
That insult was not intended to refer to being like Sheen as regards drugs but being liable to say outrageous and crazy things and live in his own universe as the center.
He is perhaps the only one who has connected Sheen and Trump in any way however. He must be the Charlie Sheen of the New York Times.
Sarah is still standing after an unprecedented assault on her family, ideas, dignity and character. She is showing she can take it so far. But Trump is a street fighter and has been giving more crap than taking. The RAT media is starting to hate him as much as anyone though.
Yep. Trump is their new target. Heat will be turned up. They want him to drop the BC issue because they know it’s a knockout punch when it lands.
