On The Factor this evening, host Bill OReilly took a good, hard look at several big Republican names rumored to be considering a run in 2012 and he didnt like what he saw.
Karl Rove, George W. Bushs former senior adviser, was on hand to rate potential candidates, whom, as he sees it, have three challenges that they must face: 1. Clearly defining their narrative, 2. giving firm examples of what they will do to unify the Republican party (you might recall that Rove previously stated that he felt Republicans who were also birthers would do well to focus on real issues instead), and 3. preparing themselves for their moment in the spotlight.
OReilly, rather delightfully referring to himself as the King of Cable News, added that just getting known in politics is extremely difficult if you dont the machine behind you like, say, George Bush, Jr. had.
He then turned his focus on Donald Trump, Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann, all of whom he referred to as flamboyant, attention-grabbing grenades who could do great damage in the primaries should they in fact decide to run. He added that Trump doesnt have to put forth the hard job of being a candidate because he has the luxury, of sorts, of being known for his work on TV. Kove disagreed, saying the work of being candidate requires a little more hand-shaking and baby-kissing than can be done from the cold glow of a television set.
Both men agreed that Trumps focus on President Barack Obamas birth certificate could hurt him, despite the very loud segment of the Republican Party rallying behind him on this point. Give the Republicans more credit, said Rove, than to be simply focused on Barack Obama and his birth certificate.

We want Jebbie, we want Jebbie.
These creeps are soooo irrelevant. You want to know why your show is sinking BOR(e)... this crap needs to stop.
Which past laurels are those? Any time I hear "Karl Rove" I think "Turd Blossom." Kinda says it all doesn't it?
The White House has CZAR B.O. and FOX has Bag O’ Rocks B.O.
Also the clan of Tokyo Rove, Charles Sourkrauthammer and Dana Perugino seems to be growing with additional elitist RINOs!
BOR is the McCain of tv.
That’s a snarky left-wing way to refer to Dubya.
He's lost touch with reality. He's becoming as "beloved" as his idol, Ozero.
Heard Sarah tell Hannity this evening that IT’S TOO EARLY to announce. That she’s still evaluating the field to see if there is ANYONE, in so many words, with the stones, the core values and the backbone and grit to be a viable candidate.
Then I remembered, months ago she said that if a REAL CONSERVATIVE candiate emerged, who had what it takes to win the election and govern properly, SHE WOULD NOT RUN. From where I sit, there’s NOBODY in sight who fills the bill. She’ll probably HAVE TO RUN!
Trump has made lots of money by abusing “eminent domain” land and property grabs.
Shame on ANY American (let alone, any “conservative”) who supports him.
FR would be a better place if it were an O’Reilly-free zone.
What drivel, at least once they get out of Iowa and New Hampshire. What percentage of Republican voters across the US does Rove think any candidate has ever shaken hands with?
It's all about connecting with voters on the issues they care about, and having a good stump speech, and good radio and TV ads and good organizations in each state.
They might get some good footage of a candidate shaking hands and kissing babies to use, but they will only make direct contact with a very, very tiny percentage of the voters.
I keep remembering how no one in the “GOP Establishment” came to the defense of Sarah Palin, when she was outlandishly being accused of all-out murder by the media this past January, after the Arizona shootings.
And, with this in mind, if Palin, Bachman, and Trump are apparently being deemed ‘grenades,’ all I can add is that I hope they blow-up Rove and the “GOP Establishment” to kingdom come! Never could have envisioned it coming to this point, but my low regard for the latter is dipping down to the kind of depths I reserve for Obama, Pelosi, and their repulsive ilk.
Rove’s “past laurels”?
Rove took a sure win against a dilletante moron and changed it into a near loss in 2004.
When the National Guard issue threatened to sink Bush, Rove had no answers. Outside citizens like the Swiftboaters and Bush’s National Guard buddies saved the day, along with Dan Rather’s stupidity.
Likewise, other issues had no Rove solutions - others saved the day.
Now on the outside, Rove is still doing his best now to lose this election. Today he comes out again demanding the Republicans support amesty for illegals to get the Hispanic vote. That will kill grass roots support for any Republican nominee following his advice.
Your assessment is most correct.
Reminds me of the “5 stages of death”; the media, the libs and the GOP establishment are in the anger and denial stages.
The whirlwind of middle America will sweep right over them.
Not 'no' but 'hell no!'
As for Palin and Bachmann being hand grenades; it would be nice to have some real conservatives in this election.
Exactly a bunch of Damn Cowards!!Even in the House sitting next to the VERY Animals that are trying to take this country Down.
This started with McCains Bunch another batch of Political wimps, that left her hanging.
“Is anyone still listening to Ted Baxter and Tokyo Rove?”
Good old Rino O’Reilly must want Romney.
I stopped watching the RINO News Channel several months ago and have been happier ever since.
