First it was Sarah, Now it’s Donald’s Turn-GOP Assist Left in Destroying Another Dynamic Hopeful
Yes, But, However! ^ | April 19, 2011 | John Romano

Occasionally Democrats and establishment Republicans form an uneasy alliance to smack down a political interloper.

The best example of this in recent history was the destruction of Sarah Plain as a political entity. As the Democrats were making hay of every verbal gaffe Ms. Palin made, while ignoring the “57 states” of Barack Obama’s America, establishment Republicans were whispering to their Democratic party friends that Palin wasn’t a true Republican. “We’d never choose her!,” was the mantra.

You see, Republican leaders like Karl Rove and others want GOP candidates to be described using six letters only: b-o-r-i-n-g. Rove in particular has been very anti-Palin and has called Donald Trump a “joke candidate”. Karl Rove was simply an assistant to George Bush, no political sage he, yet every time he goes on TV and knocks Republicans he helps the Democrats. If Rove were smart, he would see the value of a Trump or Palin to the Republican brand. America isn’t a Tom Clancy novel. No one gave that message to Karl Rove. Folks like Palin and Trump are fearless, and rarely, if ever, back down from external pressures. Both would potentially add spice to a very bland field of candidates. Slings and arrows roll off their backs, much like the fabled Teflon President. Perhaps you recall Ronald Reagan? He confounded the ’80′s era Democrats at every turn, and that’s what got him a nickname meant to insult him. He reputedly loved it.

The Democratic party has no trouble getting behind dynamic, if unproven, candidates. Take Barack Obama. The President had no real executive experience, was on tape saying he isn’t ready for the job of President, had a questionable past including ties to domestic agitator and terrorist Bill Ayers and a foul-mouthed reverend. So what? The party brass basically said, “The guy has a great smile, gives a killer speech and is African-American and he is going to win.” They were right. The power of positive thinking. Fast forward two years later and thousands of party faithful (many former Hillary devotees) are screaming “Obama! Obama!” over and over again.

Put Palin and Trump through the same filter. Trump has baggage, but he is on all three major networks all but calling Obama a Kenyan and getting away with it. How can you ignore that? The man has chutzpah. That counts.

Trump also has a lot of negatives. Instead of focusing on the positive, GOP politicos and opinion makers fear the negative. Sure, Democrats will attempt to drag him through the mud. But no matter who runs, they will do that. People with no skeletons in the closet are pretty bland. There may not be any pictures of Tim Pawlenty partying with naked cheerleaders in Mexico on file at DNC headquarters, but he also isn’t getting anyone excited about his candidacy. Palin is bold and you can find photos of her unashamedly wielding guns and Donald Trump is, well. . . Donald Trump. Both have self-acknowledged defects of character, but they get people excited. And both would scare most of the world with their shoot-from-the-hip styles. The last time we had someone like that the Berlin Wall fell.

Democrats never worry about this kind of thing. They are completely loyal to one another. Look at Hillary Clinton. She loses a nomination that should have been hers by right and probably would have been if Obama was right when he misspoke and claimed that the country had 57 states. Did she go rogue? Did she pout? (Well, Bill did for a hot minute). She kept her mouth quiet and supported Obama and was appointed Secretary of State because of it. The Republican party has no such loyalty in its ranks.

Somehow, the press that leans left has been loathe to knock Trump. He has the Democrats and the Karl Roves of the Republican party terrified. The last thing the President needs is a Republican nominee who believes in himself and is shameless in the face of criticism. The last thing Karl Rove needs is a thrice-married New Yorker with cojones of steel ruining his fund-raising efforts.

I have no direct evidence of this, but internal polls probably show that the uber-conservatives within the GOP want a stable, Christian, white male at the top of the Republican ticket. I’m kidding, of course, as I don’t need a poll for that! That is what they always want. Trump and Palin don’t meet that standard. The right-wing controls the money within the party. They’d rather see Romney stumble over health care because he has the right values (and look) than watch Donald Trump blossom into a strong candidate. The party wants the donors happy. That’s not a swing vote. That’s a safe vote, guys. Wake up!

Obama will be tough to beat under all but the most unlikely circumstances. I refer, of course, to a scandal which would make the Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers and 57 states-type gaffes look like nothing. Now what could that be? Trump is certainly working to find one, unlike the party.

Unless the Republican party grows up and allows other voices a seat at the table, Obama will be President until 2016. Knowing the GOP as I do, I’ll get it out there now and wish Obama a good second term.

The claim that Palin has been “destroyed as a political entity” is highly exaggerated and invalid.

It’s so exaggerated that it pretty much guarantees this guy’s true intention is to fabricate a false belief about Palin’s ability to run for president.

What a liar.

I think we can use Trump some more before we dump him. He is bringing up the birther issue, making it politically feasible for states to consider birther bills. We need Trump to stay on the scene until a few states pass and sign a good birther bill at least. Then, he’s toast and we can haz Sarah.

So I’m a liar, huh?

Instead of leveling insults, try and prove me wrong.

“everybody is entitled to their opinion and i agree with and respect that but personally i don’t understand comments like “trump needs to get lost” and “he’s unelectable”, etc. these comments are exactly like what rove, coulter and krauthammer make and seems quite suspicious, almost as if they’re coming from a dem posing as a conservative.”

No, the point is that Trump has no bonafides in politics, and his statements are even more polarizing than Palin’s. Further, many of his views are very far from conservative. Then there’s the not-so-little matter of his personal life. His poll numbers will continue to drop from here, and I hope he has the common sense and integrity not to run.

He’s a publicity hound, and he’s doing a pretty good job with that - not with making a serious run for the Presidency.

“IF TRUMP IS DENIED THE NOMINATION, I WILL NOT VOTE AT ALL.”

I suggest you make some fun plans for election day then.

We’ll try do do without your 1/40,000,000 contribution to our cause. ;-)

Nobody destroyed Palin in my book. The media just wants folks in the GOP to think so. I will vote for her again, just like I voted for Palin/McCain last time. (No McCain, please.)

Perhaps the focus should be more general? Let's get Obama's past on record. How did he do in college? Release the high school and college transcripts.

I'd like to see Sarah Palin's transcripts (and I know they won't be perfect since she was paying her own way), and DeMint's if he runs, and Bachmann's, and those of any RINO (yeah, even Romney and the Huckster). Make a production of the fact that releasing records on their past is an important part of disclosure and understanding the whole person. Release a full, long-form birth certificate and a full college transcript on every candidate except Obama, and there will be more pressure to comply with the legitimate request to release the transcripts. That leaves an obvious hole if Obama refuses to release his transcripts, and even if he releases them but doesn't release the long-form bc.

[Note: I'm posting this on several threads because I think this tactic may make a difference in saving America and I want to hear feedback.]

If you wrote this article please provide some proof that Sarah Palin is destroyed. Also please provide some examples of her verbal gaffes you mention here.

If I was a Palin fan I’d be insulted that The Donald is being lumped in with her. Amazed to see so many Palinista’s doing it here.

I dont think its just the GOP either. I think both parties are losing with the folks. People are more engaged and angry in both directions. Its seems more so on us because the Dems are in the White House. Dems are in a big mess too.

The tea party has a great oppty here.

May be time to start up an actual Tea Party party in 12. If the GOP trots out Huckster Romney or Jeb Bush.

We laugh and poo poo third parties but Im not to sure a third party couldnt win. Sarah Palin in Wisconsin offered a olive branch to the unions. I loved her calling them brothers and sisters, a contract is a contract......but we need to do things now to save your job and your pensions. She nowhere in that speech belittled the unions and never really has. dont know if she could be the messenger but Tea party might just be the party to do it.

If she ran as a TP candidate I would be all in. Sheriff Joe for AG. A clean sweep of the whole corrupt mess is called for. It is time for the GOP and Rats to pay the Piper.

Your own words prove you wrong.

You speak of “the destruction of Palin as a political entity” as though it were some sort of concrete event. Then you follow it up with only false claims and slippery language.

Look at where Palin is among all the contenders. How much support does she have?

I know the value of Sarah Palin to the GOP and the conservative movement because I’ve seen her prove it over the last several years. Donald Trump? Not so much.
