I think Ziegler nails it. Politics today is FAR more about celebrity, personality & charisma than it is about anything else, to especially include ideology. I bet most people in the US couldn't accurately describe the differences between conservatives, democrats, libertarians and communists.
Trump is popular because he's exceedingly well-known, charismatic, filthy sticking rich and not afraid of a fight - probably in that order.

It means tired of the old GOP and the entire Democratic machine and looking for someone that has fire in the belly. Trump has that and speaks out, although not exactly right in everything, but this is a real man with gonads.

It's not about what kind of president Trump would make. It's about his willingness to speak truth to power. People are more fed up than we thought. Trump's not afraid of the government-media-academic establishment like so many GOP "leaders" seem to be. People admire courage. This is instructive for others. Will they learn from it?

I don't know. The whole thing's starting to look like the theater of the absurd. Actually kind of funny.
I hope Obama gets bounced and I like Trumps attacks on him and the MSM but I hope Palin pulls it out somehow.

Very astute analysis.
I don't see him impacting Pawlenty that much, although I suppose anyone who sucks up publicity probably takes it from a legitimate presidential candidate.
Otherwise, I completely agree.

Me thinks that the reason that the pundits of all stripes are atwitter was kinda answered in 1972, Pauline Kael's infamous quote "I don't know anyone who voted for Nixon."
Surprise, elitists.

I do not back him for ANY presidential run, but I support our Constitution and I support all of his attacks on the muslim boy hussein regarding his continued eligibility issues.

No, it’s not about celebrity status. It’s about standing up to Obama and media without flinching. I cannot even estimate the number of Democrats who voted for Obama that are now telling me that they love Trump because he is standing up to Obama, Democrats who feel that they were betrayed by Obama, that fell for his hope and change garbage.
I know die-hard Democrats who now believe that they voted for a Muslim, who wants to destroy this country. They wouldn’t believe it before the election, but they believe it now.

The author’s credibility is undermined, despite his obvious credentials, by his dismissal of anyone who raises the issue of Soetoro/Obama’s NBC status as a “tinfoil hat” wearing “birther.” He gives no explanation for this dismissive attitude toward a genuine issue being raised.

Trump is catching fire with some because he isn’t cowed by the Dems or anyone else.
And he is catching fire with others because he isn’t Palin, and anyone who isn’t Palin is exciting to them.
Trump is not particularly conservative, not particularly principled, not particularly consistent in his beliefs. But he has stood up and asked questions that the main-stream media have preferred to ignore and thats good. If he mounts a third party run, he is playing into Obama’s hands though, or Hillary’s hands, and that means four more years of you-know-what. Trump may be another case of the enemy trying to pick our candidate, like McCain, or he may be another Perot.
