Does Donald Trump really have a 'great relationship with the blacks'? Not for much longer, perhaps
The Week ^ | April 15, 2011 | Various hacks and pundits

Not content with pursuing the fringe conspiracy theory that President Obama isn't a U.S. citizen, Donald Trump has now entered the tricky world of race relations. The would-be Republican presidential candidate has boasted of his "great relationship with the blacks" on a New York radio station, before declaring that Obama's enormous support from the African-American community is "very, very frightening." Trump also hinted that Hillary Clinton's defeat in the 2008 primaries was partly motivated by race. Will Trump's choice of words turn off these black voters who supposedly love him so much? (Watch a CBS discussion about Trump's comments.)

Trump's language belongs to another era: Trump's comments were "highly offensive," says Walter Fields, former head of NAACP New Jersey, as quoted by Capital New York. Referring to "the" blacks signifies that he's "actually treating African-Americans as objects." This "level of ignorance" is evidence that Trump has a mindset "reminiscent of the Jim Crow era." It wasn't that long ago that "the objectification of blacks was paramount to maintain slavery."

"What's wrong with Donald Trump and 'the blacks'"

"The blacks" don't like him much anyway: Trump's birther obsession has already provoked a "heavy backlash" from the African-American community, says Hayat Mohamed at The Root. Many think he's using the issue as a proxy for race, and prominent black figures like Bill Cosby have "publicly ridiculed" the billionaire. If he ever did have a great relationship with "the blacks", it won't last much longer.

"Donald Trump: I have a great relationship with the blacks"

This will hurt his political prospects: It's still unclear whether Trump's "fake presidential campaign" amounts to political ambition, says Steve Kornacki at Salon, but it's worth noting what happened to another "rich guy turned presidential candidate" when he made a racial faux pas. In July 1992, Ross Perot offended the audience at an NAACP convention by referring to them as "you people" during his speech. A week later he dropped out of the race.

"When rich white guys talk about black people"

You are exactly right. 99.9% of blacks are not going to vote for anyone but Obama unless someone like Herman Cain runs against him and I don't even think he could take that many black votes. They love that government teat too much.

They seem to be vehemently racist. The darker skinned candidates usually run as Democrats. A jog through most major inner cities in this Country will plainly show what self-infliction they have wrought upon themselves. I don’t like it, wish I could change it, these kids are ignorant.

Even a black rat will get beat by a white rat if the white rat gets the endorsement of the main black dems in the state. This happened in Alabama in the dem primary for governor in 2010.

Many of the usual suspects are trying to make a big deal of out this ridiculous ginned-up “controversy” but it’s very weak beer. How is it any different from talking about any other voting group, Jews, Muslims, gays, Mormons, whatever?

Ed’s Law of Controversies goes like this: A genuinely controversial statement is instantly controversial. On the other hand, if a “controversial” statement takes more than a day to generate “controversy” and requires having the statement read to people over and over by the news media in order to generate “outrage,” then it’s not a real controversy; it’s a media-generated political event calculated to destroy a career.

At the rate The Donald’s organizations employ blacks and hispanics, they should kiss his Plaza.

Hayet Mohammed? Hmmm? We need to listen to him about who should be the nominee, no doubt. May be we should check with Major Hassan as well.

If there were black suffrage in the antebellum South, the usual 90% to 95% would probably have voted for the candidates who despised the white man most and provided for their welfare best.
And that would have been the rich Democrat plantation owner aristocracy who saw the negro as their droll little pets and the ordinary whites as common trash.

Not many of the conservative black people. They understand, and they’re not as overly sensitive or vain as many middle class white folks.
