While the media is reveling in Donald Trumps newfound status as Republican presidential candidate, not everyone on the right seems to understand why Trump has chosen President Barack Obamas nationality as a battlefront. One voice opposed to spotlighting the birther issue is Sen. Marco Rubio, who wondered aloud this week how President Obamas birthplace has become a legitimate campaign issue.
Speaking to the Daily Callers Matt Lewis, Sen. Rubio appeared genuinely puzzled that the Presidents birthplace is still an issue so many years later. There are more important things facing our country, he noted. What does that have to do with the $14 trillion we owe? he asked, adding that the national debt particularly with regard to China is what we should be focusing on like a laser.
Compared to reactions from some possible 2012 frontrunners including Mike Huckabee this morning Sen. Rubios dismissive response to Trump comes almost as a surprise. Of course, unlike most people talking about Donald Trump on television and the internet, Sen. Rubio has a constituency to worry about, whether he runs for higher office or not, and the median voter has been proven time and again to care little for the birth certificate talk. Not to mention that, after a hellish week trying to agree on a national budget, a reality TV star griping about the possibility of the President being foreign-born may seem particularly trivial.
Then theres the fact that Sen. Rubio may have enough in common with the President that, should he ultimately run for higher office, supporting foreign birth fears could come back to haunt him. Rubio has flatly denied rumors of being anywhere near the GOP presidential ticket in 2012, though at this stage of the horserace it is much more difficult to find someone admitting they are thinking about running than denying it. Perhaps 2012 may be too early for the first-term Senator, but if presidential ambitions are in Sen. Rubios future, it wouldnt be unfathomable that an equally incomprehensible movement speculating about Rubios birthplace would form, too. If he runs in 2012, he will have the same amount of experience in the Senate as President Obama had when he won the presidency, and he would likely face a similar uphill battle with a certain sector of the population ethnically, too. After all, Rubio is the son of exiles and was born in Miami, Florida tropical enough to arouse the brand of ill-placed, time-wasting paranoia Trump has made the centerpiece of his presidential (?) campaign.

But Im sure of one thing, if Trump pulls this off, he will be the first big American hero of the 21st century, and one of the biggest heros in all of American history. How can that status, combined with his money, not add up to next President of the United States?
And obviously he knows that and obviously hes going for it.
Trump, and every other American with varying amounts of life, liberty, and property that they would like to retain, have a vested interest in exposing this Obama fraud, and defeating the life-sucking unholy spectre of a communist/muslim alliance that has taken control of our media, the Democrats and the RINOs.
If Trump does pull off this exposition, he doesn't need to become president to ensure his rightful place in history, and his wealth will also be protected.
As it is, no citizen's life, liberty, and property is safe, and such will never be safe again without clarification and affirmation of the NBC clause of the Constitution.
Rubio and others who do not meet the basic requirements for POTUS clearly do not have the long-term best interests of citizens at heart.
Despite his parents having escaped from Cuba, he's at least as American as you are. And way more qualified to be POTUS!

Maybe any congress critter that was in office when the “0” was allowed to usurp should loose all of their fed retirement and perks forever. Just wishful thinking.
I am consistently impressed by Rubio and am mindful of his natural constituency and how the NBC issue might be a bit touchy for them.
I am also grateful that he represents a potential return to the fiscal responsibility the Republican party was once better known for. His practical focus on budget matters is needed and welcomed.
But, as our government, Republic and its and our future all flow from the Constitution, obama's status and legitimacy are not trivial matters. obama's refusal to honor his campaign promises of transparency and his guarding his past is disrespectful and troubling.
So, while Rubio's singular focus on our budget mess is commendable, dismissing the concerns millions of Americans have for the POTUS is not.

I would love having West as president probably more than any other candidate and enjoy the videos, but I’m not sure I’d classify him as an outstanding presidential candidate.
What’s keeping him from that designation is that he’s not really a household name and is just a recently elected congressman.
Rubio might have eligibility problems, too. I want candidates to the most powerful office vetted more carefully. If the LSM digs into Jindal and Rubio, then there's more pressure for them to finally do their jobs as it pertains to zerO.
I personally won't look the other way on this issue, even if it's a candidate I like.

I have no quarrel with your interpretation of the above. My REQUEST is that the interpretations upon which not even Team Obama has hung its shabby hat, be verified by the Courts.
There is absolutely no difference between citizens of the United States, save one peculiar requirement of the Constitution: i.e., that the President be a "Natural Born Citizen. " Since the Constitution carefully spells out the citizenship qualifications for every other elected federal office, and reserves the term "Natural Born" for the Presidency, I and quite a few of my fellow citizens demand clarification beyond interpretation.
When the distinguished Supreme Court Justice Charles Evan Hughes, was mentioned as a candidate for Presidency, his name was removed from the list because he was not a "Natural Born Citizen." He did not object. And I assure you, he was quite familiar with Wong Kim Ark.

Hughes was kept off the list of presidents only because 'Rat Woodrow Wilson won a second term in a close election in 1916. California put Wilson over the top by 17 electoral votes when Wilson got 3800 more votes than Hughes. Eligibility and Wong Kim Ark had nothing to do with it.

If the kid is born in this country (other than to diplomats), he is subject to US jurisdiction and therefore is a citizen by birth according to the 14th. Although the Court has not ruled on the meaning of "natural born citizen", it is unlikely they would find it to mean other than citizen by birth

To settle the question properly, we would need another amendment written to fix the anchor baby phenomenon and define natural born
once and for all.

Here's where we disagree:
If a child is born to legal resident aliens, parents and children become citizens at naturalization. This automatic citizenship is, I repeat, merely a custom, not a law. Far from requiring an amendment, anchor baby citizenship of illegals' offspring could be ended with nothing more than an executive order. Children born to citizens abroad, in normal custom, are citizens of their parents' country.

Let’s not repeat the same mistake we made as a nation with Zippy by pushing Marco Rubio for president or VP.
He has been asked repeatedly to demonstrate that his parents were citizens when he was born in Miami in 1971. He either cannot or will not do it.
If his parents remained Cuban citizens in May, 1971 then Marco is NOT a natural born citizen. Citizen, yes. Natural born, no.
A natural born citizen is a person born in this country of TWO citizen parents. That leaves Marco out unless he produces what he has not produced thus far.
And, of course, that definition leaves Obozo out also.
(It is de Vattel’s definition of 1758 which was the standard of intenational law used by the founders.)

He doesn’t produce the evidence one way or another. He just says he will NOT seek higher office in 2012. Becoming an effective senator is his goal, he says.
So far, he has done pretty well. He is voting the conservative line, as far as I can see. He didn’t join the Tea Party Caucus because he says the Tea Party should be independent of DC politicians. I agree with that. At first, politicians were not very welcome at TP rallies.
