A true conservative choice!
Alan Keyes for President ^ | 2/4/08 | Helen M. Valois

Posted on 02/05/2008 4:02:41 AM PST by Brian Sears

Have you ever asked yourself why the Democratic frontrunner —whoever that may be at the moment — is never mistaken for a closet Republican?

Do you ever hear liberals complaining that their party has abandoned them, wishing there was a candidate they could support wholeheartedly — or wondering why the leadership of the various facets of their movement has jumped ship, endorsing someone who holds views antithetical to those the leaders themselves say they stand for?

When’s the last time you heard a person planning to vote in the Democratic primaries being lectured about the fact that the vast majority of their fellow citizens just aren’t going to accept an influx of illegal immigrants with no commitment to becoming American; being advised that a vote for Obama is, effectively, a way of putting yet another Republican in the White House; being warned that Hillary’s run is premature because the country simply isn’t ready for a woman President?

Have you ever noticed the Democratic top brass distancing themselves from the far-left wing of their party, branding as “ideological traitors” those average Americans who hold unabashedly liberal views, and directing them to temper their hopes to the point of non-existence — all in the interest of political expediency?

I haven’t, either.

Members of the Republican base hear similar self-defeating platitudes trumpeted at them all the time. Turn on the radio, and Rush and Company will promptly remind you how naïve you are for wanting to put conservative principle into political practice. Open a Catholic or Evangelical periodical, and you will be instructed “in conscience” to vote for the lesser of two evils, even though there is no basis for this approach in magisterial teaching or Christian example. Say that you are planning to support Alan Keyes, and you will immediately be informed that you are actually supporting someone else, in an exercise of mental and linguistic gymnastics so contorted it would make Alice herself feel she has somehow stumbled into a new and even more bewildering wonderland.

With Super Tuesday upon us, it’s time to leave behind the political playground in which the conservative entertainment industry would have us frolic, and take a cold, hard look at what’s happening in the real world — and at what needs to be done about it, too. After all, up until about a week ago, Rudy Giuliani’s ascendancy to the Republican nomination was “inevitable,” wasn’t it? Those who have taken it upon themselves to do our thinking for us haven’t been doing a very good job, so let’s let them know we’ll be handling that aspect of things for ourselves from now on, shall we?

We need a candidate who effectively embodies the Reagan legacy of conservatism -- unflinching, unapologetic, and complete. That candidate is Alan Keyes.

We need a candidate with true grit in the face of Islamofascist terrorism. That candidate is Alan Keyes.

We need a candidate who doesn’t treat the lives of unborn and vulnerable Americans as mere chips at his own private political gaming table. That candidate is Alan Keyes.

We need a candidate who won’t just “lower taxes,” but who will abolish the unconstitutional attack on liberty inherent in the income tax system itself. That candidate is Alan Keyes.

We need a candidate who acknowledges that marriage is a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman, and that what God has established, no political correctness can redefine. That candidate is Alan Keyes.

We need a candidate who realizes where the United States of America begins and ends, both geographically and ideologically. That candidate is Alan Keyes.

Most of all, we need a candidate who will reassert the authority of God over our public life. That candidate is Alan Keyes.

No candidate, no leader, no President, however, can accomplish the mission of America’s Revival on his own. That mission is in the hands of every citizen eligible to vote right now, on whose watch the “crisis of the Republic” is taking place.

Those conservative leaders threatening to sit out the election cycle of 2008 on the grounds that there is no one suitable to support, and advising us to do the same, are out to lunch on this one, as culpably as are the prophets of compromise themselves. We have Alan Keyes to vote for! We will have only ourselves to blame, if — on the whole host of issues on which only conservative principle will suffice, on which the survival of our very liberty depends — we end up with anything less.

I like Alan Keyes. Everytime I hear him speak he makes me proud that he’s an American. But he has no chance (and neither do Duncan Hunter or Ron Paul). Might as well vote for Mickey Mouse.

Yes, or you could be a nut and vote for the liberal (McCain), the liar (Romney), the white-flagger (Paul), and the big government tax-raiser (Huckabee).

Perhaps actually voting for a real conservative would be nice.

Vote Alan Keyes!

Keyes doesn’t have a chance because people that support him are willing to compromise and vote for the lesser of evils. You’re still voting for evil.

Keyes doesn’t have a chance because he didn’t run a campaign.

A little late now...

Here’s a quote from a true conservative (Judge Robert Bork) about why he endorsed Romney:

“No other candidate will do more to advance the conservative judicial movement than Governor Mitt Romney. He knows firsthand how the judicial branch can profoundly affect the future course of a state and a nation. I greatly admired his leadership in Massachusetts in the way that he responded to the activist court’s ruling legalizing same-sex ‘marriage.’”

A vote for anyone other than Romney will only get us RINO McCain.

Instead of wasting your vote on Keyes, why not just vote for the perfect candidate, yourself? Your odds of becoming POTUS are just as good AND you agree with yourself 110%...

Not voting for any presidential candidate on the ballot is a valid option.

Of course voting for Keyes would be tantamount to the same thing ... if your state allows write in candidates.

So what did he do?

When your weapon runs out of bullets, you pull your sidearm and keep shooting at the enemy. Romney is our sidearm. He might be enough to keep the fight going.

The only other choice is to let them overrun us, and I will never do that.

First he pushed for a stay of the court’s ruling granting gay marriage, but the court denied it. Then he pushed for a state marriage amendment, but it lost by two votes. He was successful, however, in prohibiting gays from out of state to marry in Massachusetts based on an old law that he got enforced.

According to Santorum, he was also one of the few governors that lobbied Congress for a Federal constitutional marriage amendment, the amendment that McCain opposed.

BTW, Huckabee never lobbied Congress for the marriage amendment, though he pretends now to be so conservative.

I never knew that. Thanks!
