It would make sense for Rudy to be Thompson's running mate except for one thing. Contrary to popular wisdom, it's actually unusual for the VP nominee to be someone who actively ran for President for that same term. There have only been two since actual primaries began in the 70s, George H. W. Bush and John Edwards. Only one of them, Bush, mounted a truly serious challenge to the potential nominee.
I think it's more likely that the running mate of whoever is the nominee will be someone who isn't even in the current discussion for President. See my above post.

Thing is, Rudy has star power, as does Thompson. That would be helpful, given the political environment.
