Announcing Vitter Blog

During the drama of the Toomey/Specter primary, the one place many of us turned to was Toomeyblog.com. Even though that race didn't go as we hoped, others are taking their cue and are starting blogs for other candidates like Herman Cain.

Well, add another to the list. I've started Vitterblog. My blog is dedicated to tracking Congressman David Vitter's campaign for the U.S. Senate. As you know, Louisiana has never elected a Republican to the Senate (appointed by the legislature during Reconstruction, true, but not by a direct election). Vitter is running against three Democrats, one of which is Senator Breaux's chosen successor, Chris John. I've seen quite a number of close races in LA end in defeat for our side lately, and if I can provide a tool to inform people about what's going on, it'll be worth it.

I hope the blog will be helpful for those who are interested in this campaign, especially my fellow Louisianans who want some true conservative representation in the Senate from our state for a change!

This is a good developement. What I'm wondering about is whether ex-Governor Buddy Roemer will enter the race. If he does, it might not be as bad for Vitter as it looks. Roemer is a nominal Republican, but is less conservative than most Louisiana Republicans. He would get hometown support from Shreveport (which leans 'Rat) and some urban white soccer moms and cubicle dads. Also, Louisiana voters choose on the basis of the individual as often as for party or ideology. It's conceivable that Vitter and Roemer could finish first and second, shutting the 'Rats out of the runoff.

Roemer, as an incumbent Governor, lost to David Duke in the jungle primary in 1991. You really have to be "special" to do that.

I think there are some great candidates running this year... Herman Cain, Vitter, Pat Toomey :(, Jim DeMint. This year, not only can we keep the Senate, but make it much more conservative and negate the effects of RINO's like Chafee, Specter, Collins, and Snow.
