The manager payed one bill and tipped well the groupies payed the other and left only 20 bucks. They were awful, and when they got the bill had us split it 12 ways and denied ever ordering half the things their fat asses just ate! Never again if these two walk in will i jump to serve them and their group of 12- 14 aunts uncles cousins neighbors and any or all other groupies that walk around kissing their asses!

I know waiters and waitresses (most pretty damng liberal thmeselves, especially in Austin) insist on %20, but that's an awful lot. 10% is the minimum I give for mediocre service. In fact, if everyone gave 10% for average service, waiters and waitresses would porbably make _more_ money on average than they do now.

My office group are the worst in the world. (Most groups, period, are. Thus the mandatory 15% in some places.) Typically throw just enough money for their meal (as listed on the menu) and maybe one drink. No tip. No TAX!

This spring, I went to dinner with a table of 30 "professionals." I threw out a $20 for a $15 after-tax meal. A gregarious 33% tip. On a nearly $600 tab (tip included), the table, after everyone insisted they paid, was still almost $100 _short!_

I generally tip 15% or a little more. Wait staff really shouldn't complain (out loud) about a 10% tip, though. From anybody.

I hate to bring race into this, but the many waitresses I have known have let it be known to me that basically, blacks don't tip.

I know a prime example. If the meal isn't fit for an angel, they send a mild complaint to the manager and leave no tip. You'd think such people simply wouldn't eat out. Not on your life. They live to stiff wait staff.

If I owned a restaurant and if a customer did not leave a tip on the 2nd time I'd tell them we don't want their cheapskate business. You reap what you sew cheapskate. Would you go to a restaurant where you knew the service charges were in the bill for $15/hr? Bet you wouldn't.

How about delivery drivers? A lot of people don't even think that a driver has to spend his/her money to get somebody's order to them. Unless tipped they paid to get your food to you."


Calm down. I made a rhetorical point. I am a generous tipper.

I delivered pizza and chicken delight for 5 years in my car that I repaired myself when it broke down. You cannot say that, can you? If you owned a restaurant, you would never turn away business of a poor tipper because you'd be only hurting yourself. Owners pay 3/hr to staff; you don't have a problem with that.

Of course I would not be forced to pay a 15% tip BEFORE the staff even served me. There would be no incentive for them to provide good service. Only a fool or a weakling would agree to this.

Have you ever heard of a celebrity getting bad service? Many New York waitresses are notorious for giving ordinary Joes who pay their own way terrible service and expecting big tips, and then slobbering all over celebrities, who often get a free ride.

That stuff goes on in Austin, TX, too.

Let me premiss this with some backgroud. I'm almost 55 & a VietNam vet, also an 'empty nester" {our kids are grown & gone}. I've "moonlighted" as a Pizza driver since just before "Desert Storm". I do it just Winters {in Nebraska}.

These are my conclusions

People who work, or worked, for tips tip fairly.

Nurses tip better than Doctors.

Politicians tip poorly. Democrats are the Worst. Libertarians are the BEST of the bunch.

Gays tip better than straights.

Baby Sitters will try to steal the tip left by the parents {leave a check, not cash, for the pizza}.

Renters are less likely to shovel snow than home owners. Non-shovels don't tip. Parents of teens that won't shovel shouldn't leave their kids the CASH tip for the pizza guy; like "sitters"... that tip will be intercepted/swipped.

Foster Homes, that are re-paid for delivry meals & tips, always need a reciept. They are "pissed as...." when I write "no tip given' on that reciept. If this is YOUR scam, tip something {I won't write on your reciept} then list a larger/bogus tip.

Hispanic imigrants tip better than HUD or section 8 residents. And The hispanic kids never try to swip the Tip.

Imigrant Africans and African college kids tip far better than American Blacks of the same age and income, or on the same campus.

Warren Buffet tips fairly. The worse the weather the bigger He tips.

The town I worked in had a two week boat show every year. One week was for engine powered boats, and the other was for sail boats. The power boat crowd was down to earth, drank a lot, and tipped well. The sail boat crowd was rich, liberal, stuck up, and tight asses. Typical.

Hello??? The corporation employing the worker is directly responsible for paying that worker a living wage, not the consumer who the corporation is profiting from. The company guarantees the wage in communism, not the consumer. That consumer works for someone else who pays them the least amount possible, and gets no TAX FREE tips!

As another poster said, it's first a matter of education. If you don't know, how can you do it properly. Waiters want 20% for "whatever" service, but if everyone left 10%, they'd all make more money than they do now! So who's the authority? Best thing is to either build it into the bill or change the law to allow wait staff f to make minimum wage. Like I said, thanks to you, waitstaff needn't worry about me because I'm not going to be going out much for dinners.

I was in the industry and have ample knowledge of both situations.

I tipped well when I was BROKE, and I believe in it profoundly. But if you want to get nasty, lets look at some hidden ugliness as well.

The truth is waiters make a good living for what they do and I am sick of hearing the pure BS propaganda that they are an abused sub-class.

Don't complain to consumers when your boss is paying you $1/hour.
