This is about government control of private property. This falls right in with the communists plans to bring down America. Here's the link. Please pay attaction to Communist Goals #1.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/922684/posts?page=21 See folks, what were fighting here are the little steps the gov't takes to protect us from ourselves. We've already got seatbelt & helmet laws to 'protect' us. Now smoking. What's next?
I for one don't need any gov't protection. Gov't protection equals control. That's what this is really about.

Follow the money. How much more do you pay for life insurance, car insurance etc because you smoke? And the insurance companies CARE about my health?
Like you said, follow the money. As long as I pay my premiums the insurance companies could care less about my health.
Follow the money - do you know how many of the anti-smoker organizations get grants of hundreds of thousands of dollars to carry out their liberty/rights taking agendas? Do you know where that money comes from?
Do you know how many smokers liberty/rights organizations get grants like this or get their money from tobacco companys?
Until you actually do some research, on this subject and ETS and the probability that a smoker will come down with a smoking related illness, instead of relying on anecdotal evidence you have no idea of what you speak.

Society is making a similiar choice now about smoking.Really?
And here I thought it was unelected boards of health, drug companies pushing their smoking cessation products, otherwise unemployable busybodies with paid positions on "Campaigns for a Tobacco-Free blah-blah-blah," self-centered narcissistic children who think they have a right to dictate adults' personal choices and corrupt politicians eager to jettison rights for votes who were driving this whole Jihad.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS!
Hopefully this law will be contested in court?

Oops, Kevao, you need to reread that post. I said "rude behavior". Rude behavior is being legislated all over the country. Two words: Cell phone. These will be next.
It seems some people can't understand how talking with the phone in one hand pressed up against their ear interferes with their ability to drive. Rude and selfish behavior. Add looking for a CD to put into the car's player, applying makeup while driving etc. Talking at movies and the theatre on the cell phone is incredibly rude and thus it is being tackled on a legislative level in many cities.
"It's all about me" this could be the theme for the culture.

You haven't made a point to debate. You are just droning on and on and on. Make a point I'll debate. I will not debate a stump or a recording that is too neurotic for me.
As for intellect, in your case I have a Labrador Retreiver who could make a stronger case for taking away property rights of business owners and supporting more government control.
Are you sending me your guns?

This is about government control of private property. Exactly. I have no problem with a city council voting to prohibit smoking in city hall, or with the military command prohibiting recruits from smoking during training, or a state government prohibiting smoking in county hospitals.
However, what's different about this ban is that it prohibits this on private property. There is no need to go to a bar. If you don't like people smoking tobacco in a bar I suggest that you don't go. Or if you feel really strongly about this I suggest that you open up your own bar and decide to run your establishment as a non-smoking one. If this were a true demand on the part of bar-patrons I would expect that there would already be non-smoking bars, and there are. I know of a few bars and restaurants that already prohibit tobacco use depite the lack of a city ordinance or state law.
I say let the free market work in this place. If you don't want to smell tobacco smoke, go somewhere else. If you don't want to work at an establishment that allows tobacco use, find a job somewhere else. Do not pass a law that prohibits tobacco use in all bars and restaurants, because the economic impact is likely to be greater than is dismissed by the tobacco banners. There have been business owners put out of work by tobacco bans, why put an entire establishment out of business when one employee who doesn't like smoking can find a job elsewhere.
This is exactly the tack taken by the gun control lobby. Paint all gun owners as rude and irresponsible people who can't control themselves, slowly ban this weapon or ban that one. Turn the tide against them, trot out facts and figure showing how dangerous they are. Pressure Hollywood and other media outlets to portray their use in a negative light. Do it for the children!

I said "rude behavior".Is it rude behavior to want a business owner to be able to, according to their own wish, accommodate my legal activity?

"My father quit 22 years ago after smoking for over 20 years because he thought the price was too high. My mom quite 3 years ago after 60 years of smoking for the same reason."
My mom quit cold turkey after 10 yrs. I quit cold turkey during the pregnancy of both my kids. I hate the "i'm a victim" mentality of people who become "victims" voluntarily.

Yep. There's a Ruby Tuesdays down the street. Stopped by for a brew, asked where the ashtray was, found out it was a smoke free bar, left the cold brew on the bar and went to another bar.
If the OWNER wants to ban smoking, fine. It's not the gov't job to regulate my habits.
Hello Liberal Classic, whats the tagline mean?

Oops, Kevao, you need to reread that post. I said "rude behavior". Rude behavior is being legislated all over the country.Ah, I thought you were implying that the people behaving rudely were rude people. My mistake.
And when you said, in post #333, "The smokers just don't get it," I take it that you were in no way implying that smokers are dense or anything; because that would be a disrespectful epithet, not conducive to coherent dialog.
