When I was in college, I remember a debate debacle about homosexuals being overrepresented in the pedophile column. I had my statistics ready, and I was ready to obliterate my gay-friendly opponent.

I quoted statistics indicating that although homosexuals were only 2% of the population, they represented 25% of the pedophiles.

Then my opponent quoted statistics indicating that homosexuals were 33% of the population, therefore if they made up 25% of the pedophiles, homosexuals were underrepresented.

At the end, I lost the debate, because I had a hostile audience who believed that homosexuals were actually 33% of the population.

I’m just saying the above to caution you about playing the game “my dad can beat up your dad” or “my expert statistician can beat up your expert statistician.”

Remember that an American wise man said: “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies and statistics.”

You are among friends here, and I think you are probably correct. Nevertheless, be careful about arguments based solely on statistics.

My favorite example comes up just about every year: it usually runs like this,
Teenage High School boys report having had sex 45%
Teenage High School girls report having sex 25%

What nobody ever mentions is the implicit promiscuity of the girls in that type of sample.

Unless of course we assume the extra boys are doing boys or non High School girls.

The more likely answer is the boys are just engaging in bragging and wishful thinking.

I understand why people get upset with militant homosexual activists; what I don't understand is why we have militant homosexual activists.
