[history]
California now has, officialdom has finally acknowledged, a financial headache that not only has grown to immense proportions but could plague the state's politicians and taxpayers for many years.
A week before Christmas, Gov. Gray Davis declared that the deficit had reached nearly $35 billion for the remainder of the current fiscal year and all of the next. That amounts to more than a fourth of the budgeted spending during that period or, to put it another way, it's about $1,000 for every man, woman and child in the state.

Eliminate state funding of education to balance the budget.
Schools would go broke and lose their ability to brainwash our young!

The crisis, and the possibility of a huge property tax refund, could also trigger a new look at an old idea: reconfiguring Proposition 13, either to loosen its limits or create a differential between residential and commercial property. For many years, liberals have advocated removing some of the tax limits from commercial property while preserving them for homes. Looks like Californistan will be blowin' in the wind. "Oh, when will they ever learn?"

The only thing keeping Kalifornia alive is Real Estate, if they mess with Prop 13 Real Estate will crash and most of the people of this state will wish for an earthquake.

If the state doesn't collect money in property taxes because of Prop 13, it will find a different way to do it. The only question is how.
How about a special $100 per month surcharge on water bills? How about raising state gasoline tax another 50 cents a gallon?
It doesn't matter, because one way or the other, it's coming.

The recent flurry of articles claiming surprise at the budget deficit make me sick. The facts were clear almost two years ago that this was going to happen, and a number of newspapers published articles on the impending doom.
I put together a list of some of these articles beginning with [this post].
But not the SacBee. When the battle was being joined, they were at the local bistro sipping white wine and snacking on Brie.
These "shocked" newspapers remind me of Robert Strange McNamara admitting 30 years too late that he screwed up in Viet Nam. Simply disgusting...

I fel sorry for all those who worked so hard to tell people about that moron, grayout davis, but where defeated by the moronic voters who elected him.
To those voters, YOU GOT WHAT YOU VOTED FOR SO DON'T COME CRYING TO ANYONE WHEN YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY BREAD BECAUSE OF THE TAXES YOU'LL HAVE TO PAY FOR HIS MISTAKES.

You bet, and as we are tending to our year round gardens and drinking from our deep water well, we will be laughing our behinds off. Bring it on!

Great news!
This decision by the judge took some guts.

Bring on the total collapse. Looking forward to it.....Curious.... what will "total collapse" look like, and will it really be noticed much by regular people who get up and go to work and try to raise families and be left alone?
Or is all the hand-wringing by the scumbag Democrats and their liberal press mainly due to concern about the parasites and the socialist welfare state?
I guess what I'm askins is, "When California's government collapses, will there be any significant change.... for you?"
To: Lancey Howard
No, but I am looking forward to it just the same.
