That's the million dollar question.
It looks like racial bias. Is it?
I won't jump to any conclusions...
No mercy.

Welcome to the "underbelly" of FR. Enjoy. :)
Have not posted anything on it all as of yet but I don't think it has to be racially biased in a total sense. We have had people like tupac and other high profile black men involved in things which have led to their murders (ie associating with some shady folks). When we see another famous black man in the news getting shot in LA with no apparent motive and the driver was ok once suspects that they were not after money or the car but were instead targeting the individual.
If that is true one could make that leap that drug problems seem to be the norm among people of fame for whatever reason and hence that were probably drugs involved.
It does not make it so, but if one had to make an educated guess (educated by past history of individuals of fame who are black and met with an untimely demise) you would at least be in the statistical ballpark.
My first thought was it was an obsessed fan, or just some freak who hated him for some other reason (he seems to have been targeted IMHO). I have not kept up with the story and am not sure what the outcome was - although I heard mention from someone (I think) that he was killed by a woman. If anyone has updates please let me know.
As far as the underbelly of FR comment I posted a thread about an Israeli soldier killing (murder in the title) a palestinian kid. Everyone said it was either propoganda (which I felt to, but now have 2 sources for the story) or it did not matter and I must have some agenda for posting something negative about Israel. Truth is I thought it was a horrible story if true, regardless of who did it and why, and if it was a lie then it needed exposed and refuted. I have been quite villified over it. Such is life.
