Gray Davis saw to that when he selected the Repubican he was going to run against.
Yup. Can you imagine what Riordan would be doing to Davis at this point?

Based on Dick Riordan's performance during the primary, I think you meant to ask, "Can you imagine what Davis would be doing to Riordan at this point?"
I can't speak for everybody, only for myself, but I didn't vote for Bill Simon because Gray Davis ran attack ads against Dick Riordan. I couldn't possibly care less what that amoral, self-obsessed
megalomaniac wanted me to do. I voted for Simon because he spent his primary time running for governor and did a decent job of it, and Riordan squandered his time, his lead in the polls and the assistance he got from the Bush White House by running against his own party. I already knew Riordan was no Ronald Reagan either in his politics or his prowess at public speaking, but the man made his name and his fortune making deals and bringing people together and I figured he'd make more of an effort to do that with conservatives during the primary. Oops. Didn't happen, and as a result, he didn't win. The Davis ads might have hurt Riordan a little, but nowhere as badly as he hurt himself.
