Howard, whose dad died of lung cancer in 1977 at age 75Moe died in 75, same year as Larry.
Hey you read that sign
It says "Hey you, no smoking"
Then why are you still smoking?
It says you...not me.

Despite token opposition and weak protests statements in the media, they appear to be too unorganized and apathetic to do some good ole-fashioned protesting and taking to the streets for their cause. ...Why should anyone else take up their cause if they won't do it? If we here at FR can organize instant action on given issues, why can't they? Sheesh!MinuteGal, the major difference between this particular issue and all other freedom issues is that anti-smokers have spent the last 30 years creating an atmosphere of guilt and shame surrounding smoking, and most smokers have bought it, just as most nonsmokers have. Few ever stop to think past the headlines in the popular press, so few even realize they have reason to fight.
I've tried everything I know of to "organize instant action" and even Freepers won't "take to the streets" when the issue is giving up our neighbors' freedom to permit smoking on their private property.

Their offspring are not nearly as funny as the originals:
These guys remind me of Free Republic!

Uh-oh, Big Alcohol better watch out next.

Excellent analysis, Max. You'd think local chambers of commerce and JayCees organizations that are supposed to protect the business interests of their members would lend a hand and their influence. Lord knows the restaurants and bars have supported these civic groups lavishly for decades with dues and contributions.
But today, these alleged "business" groups are wimpy, politically correct and plain chicken. They'll flood the street corners to sell candy and raffle tickets, but don't seem to be able to muster the strength to protect their own livelihoods with a little anti-smoking-nazi rallying.
So, it's the restaurant, hotel, motel and saloon folks that have to organize themselves because no one else will touch the issue.
But I've seen little evidence they are moving to do so.
It's enuf to drive a gal to.....shhhhhh, (puff, puff).

Here is Paul Howard on the left. Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk. (I know that's Curly's schtick):

My dad died from smoking, too. Nobody despises the tobacconauts more than me. But if somebody wants to smoke in a bar or restaurant, that's none of the government's business.

I dont think smoking should be banned. Let the free market determine such trends.
Last week, I went to a restaurant/bar for a beer and dinner. Just about everyone at the bar had a cigarette going at once. I finished my beer and left.
Maybe I should let them know why I declined dinner after reviewing the menu.

Three Stooges Beer is back? Great! That stuff's actually pretty good--at least it was the last time I had some.

When I saw the headline, I thought it would be about Algore, Jr.

My grandfather smoked Camels all his life, then quit cold turkey at age 65. I still have his leather case with three Camels inside - his last pack.
Oh yes, he lived to age 96, and died of congestive heart failure.

>My grandfather smoked Camels all his life, then quit cold turkey at age 65.
My Father smoked Camels and Chesterfields from teenage to age 70. He quit cold turkey and lived well to a ripe old 86, dying of a stroke.
OTOH, my Father-in-Law smoked Phillip Morris and died of lung cancer at age 56. It ain't so easy to understand...

Without knowing much about his life off screen, I somehow have the feeling he would not necessarily approve of his son's cause du jour.
