NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A 13-year-old New Smyrna Beach boy was beaten to death Friday by a 15-year-old boy who thought the victim had given cigarettes to the older boy's little brother, authorities said.
After an argument that left Shane Michael Farrell, 13, on the ground, the victim begged the 15-year-old boy to stop kicking him, according to one of several boys who said they witnessed the attack near the intersection of Julia and Faulkner streets.
"Please don't; no, no," Shane pleaded as the older boy repeatedly kicked him, according to the father of a witness.

I don't even know what to say about this, though I wonder where this 15-year-old got the idea that giving his brother a lousy cigarette was a hanging offense (if the victim even DID it at all).
Sickening.

People here on FR will tell you the boy should have gone to the gym and learned to fight back.

Gene Correia said his son, Gene Correia Jr., who was with Shane when the attack happened, told investigators the older boy had been looking for Shane for four days....
The 15-year-old boy was being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Daytona Beach on a second-degree murder charge.
Sounds like 1st degree to me.

"Please don't; no, no," Shane pleaded as the older boy repeatedly kicked him, according to the father of a witness. Is he taking the word of his son or was he a witness also?
If he WAS a witness, why didn't he stop it?
Another sign of decay in the body of America.

Little beast deserves to be taken out of society.......and you can interpret that any way you wish.
Sometimes there ARE such things as "bad seed". The gene pool definitely needs some cleaning out..........

D.A.R.E. claims another victim.
Using your logic in a different setting:
Man kills victim with gun
Therefore, Smith & Wesson is guilty.

I KNEW this was going to be an "anti-smoking is bad" thread.
Some of you need to go read the poem about the blind men and the elephant.

D.A.R.E. claims another victim You betcha. This criminal (and he IS a criminal), has most likely spent his entire life hearing a non-stop, neverending barrage of propaganda claiming that to smoke a cigarette is instant death. I am not surprised that this has happened, but it is shocking nonetheless.

This is just too sad. You wonder how people can be so violent and I bet the boy who beat this kid up has been beaten up by one or both of his parents too. Violence begets violence.

Saddest story I've read today. I feel sorry for everyone involved in this hideous tale. Two lives ruined, not just one. So sad.

Once we learn the race of the vic and the perp, we can determine if this a hate crime or not.
In 20 years, we'll look back on this posting. In 20 years, Fla will be trying to execute a menatlly retarded killer who was a child when he stomped another kid to death. The Pope, most of Hollywood, Mumia Adul Kopkiller (yep, he'll still be alive), and the usual suspects will be protesting and we'll look back to the day it happened.

I don't believe cigarettes had anything to do with this murder. The kid is lying.
