Step by step, we are winning. As more and more Hispanics and "people of color" gain and grow into the Middle Class, they see the folly of confiscatory tax policy. "W" will continue to pull the inclusive tent up!

sure we win votes. But what we lose during pandering i.e. the rule of law, the Constitution, our way of life, does that make it worth it?

I guess what we're supposed to take away from this is that Hispanics are Democrats, but they turn into Latinos when they vote Republican. That, and whoever edited this piece doesn't know a "block" from a "bloc". |

While some of it is policy, and a good bit simply pointing out how GOP policy and values fits in well with their own family values, I think the biggest reason is that Bush is courting them and TREATING THEM WITH RESPECT, just like he would any other American.
Amazing how treating someone like your neighbor will get them to listen to your message far more often than constantly screaming that they are "gangbanging welfare Invasionistas overtaking our country."
Some know how to win elections, gain power, win converts, and advance conservatism, while some only know how to fear and chase off others. Building a bigger base, versus subdividing.
Hopefully now that we are seeing some evidence that Bush's outreach to Hispanics is successful, more will turn and join in trying to recruit to and explain conservatism. Even Ronald Reagan wasn't always a conservative, nor was David Horowitz. Anyone can be educated to true conservatism, whether through experience, thought, or personal relationships.

Thanks to President Bush's lead, Republicans are earning more praise and confidence from Hispanic voters, leaving a clear message that the Latino vote is "up for grabs" in future elections, according to a study released Tuesday by The Latino Coalition in Washington, D.C.<>/I> Say what you will about immigration from south of the border, the fact is that it is (and has been) happening -- No surprise here. One can rail against the storm, cursing Ted Kennedy and others for liberalising immigration policy, or one can adapt to the situation.
I read that Kennedy purposefully crafted "immigration reform" in the late sixties when he and his fellow socialst dims recognized that the old "solid south" was swinging to the Republicans. They determined that unrestricted immigration from poverty stricken southern countries (foremost, Mexico) would replenish the dimocrat constituency. Stupidly (as usual) the 'pubs at the time caved.
However, there has been an unforseen consequence: Mexicans are inherently conservative by culture. The only attraction to the dims is their offer of handouts, which the poverty-stricken newcomers understandably desire, in order to get on their feet. But on many other issues, Mexicans are very conservative. As they gain quality of life, they reject the (true) socialist agenda of the dims. Thus GW's (and some Republicans') strategy may in the end bear fruit.

"W" will continue to pull the inclusive tent up! It's Hispanic illegal immigration that is poisoning the whole question of Republicans of "reaching out" to the the hispanic vote. If the Republican leadership is serious about "inclusiveness" towards hispanics, they had better do something meaningful about shutting the border to illegals first. Otherwise its hard not to conclude that the whole thing is just cynical pandering for short term electoral gain.

De Posada thinks a median age of 42 is young? I don't know how old he is, but the median age of the US population as a whole in 2000 was 35. I think maybe it should have read "24" rather than "42."

The "scorecard" presented by the coalition gave a number of Democratic lawmakers perfect 100 percent scores based on their votes on "pro-Hispanic" bills like repairing public schools This is one sick joke! Check the "inner cities" - LA, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Chicago, ad nauseum. They are all run by DemocRATs - many of the black - and they have destroyed their public schools.
Are the Hispanics really that stupid?

GOP Scoring With Latinos,
The title was a little misleading. I was thinking something along the lines of "Clinton Scoring With Interns."

This is a good thing, as long as it does
not include amnesty for illegal aliens.
Latinos suffer the consequences of illegal immigration just as much as other Americans.

Survey: Bush, GOP Scoring With Latinos Does this mean bush is scoring with latino babes?
Does it also mean that if I join the gop I get to score too?

I agree with you. I think this is a great move for Republicans. Republicans DO NOT have to pander to any group to get their vote, they just need to communicate our Republican message of hope and opportunity and economic prosperity to the different groups. We are not the party of the rich and privileged, we're the party of EVERYONE who wants to work and have the chance to succeed, to send their kids to quality schools, to have the government take less from their paychecks so they have more for their families.
Our Republican message appeals to FAMILIES -- white, Hispanic, Asian. I'll say that we should be appealing to blacks as well, but they've been lied to so much they'll never believe anything we say. Other groups are open, and we don't have to give up our principles to appeal to them. It's all how we communicate our message.
