[history]
His appointees raise funds for the governor, sometimes from those who are being regulated.
Gov. Gray Davis' record-breaking effort to secure campaign cash has been aided by a network of people he has appointed to state boards and commissions, some of whom raise money from businesses and individuals they regulate.

There was a time when this would shock me, but after a while you gert numbed by the crass boldness of it all. I just have to wonder where the FBI investigators are that would be all over the place if this was a Republican pulling such obvious shakedowns.

Amazing the Bee would have this as their banner headline story on Suday. If they end up endorsing The Corrupt One, I'll be surprised. (They may not endorse Simon, but I can't see the Bee endorsing Davis.)

They may not endorse Simon, but I can't see the Bee endorsing DavisThey'll endorse Davis. They'll start off by going into how Davis needs to clean up his operation so that there isn't a perception of pay-to-play politics, that he needs to focus on the state, do this, do that, but in the end, Davis is more qualified to be Governor because of his experience, and they'll go into why Simon *isn't* qualified using Davis' talking points. They will endorse, and they will endorse Davis, but they'll slap him on the wrist while they're at it.
The only major newspapers (I think some little ones will endorse Simon) that might endorse Simon are the Orange County Register and the San Diego Union Tribune. The only reason I say that about SD is because Davis SCREWED SD in the energy debacle. Maybe a paper in the inland empire as well.
But I don't think people pay much attention to newspaper endorsements.
IMHO

Besides hating Davis, give me one good reason to vote for Davis. Millions of people in California, and this is the choice we have? It's pathetic.
