Simon Describes His Anchor Politics: GOP candidate says faith and family support him.
By MATEA GOLD, TIMES STAFF WRITER
SAN DIEGO -- It was the end of another long day on the campaign trail for Bill Simon Jr., at the end of what has been a very long month.
Over the course of four weeks, California's GOP gubernatorial nominee has taken a beating about his tax returns and business dealings, his family investment firm has been hit with a multimillion-dollar fraud judgment, and Vice President Dick Cheney swung through California without publicly offering his fellow Republican a word of support.
For Simon, however, there was refuge late last week in a familiar ritual, one he rarely discusses but often practices. He prayed.

"I have a very, very strong belief in God, a very strong belief in human nature, and a very strong belief that if you try to do the right thing, that it's not going to be like God's going to pay you back, but you'll end up in a good place," he said. Simon added that he prays every day and reads the Bible regularly. In most state, this admission would be a comfort, but in CA it's a threat.

In most state, this admission would be a comfort, but in CA it's a threat . . . to the Establishment (Davis=Gore=x42) willingness to believe anything other than the Bible?

I can just hear the liberals deride Bill Simon for being a bible thumpin' fundamentalist fanatic.

Reading the article gives you a view of Simon's basic decency. Its true he doesn't wear his religion on his sleeve but it does matter for him. Granted, he may have made mistakes but let him who is not a sinner cast the first stone. Its amazing some people on here don't have good enough to say about him that they take this opportunity to run away from him when he's in trouble. With friends like these, Simon doesn't need enemies. We should be proud to have him as our Governor and heck its amazing this mostly positive look at Simon's faith made it into the L.A Slimes, no friend of his campaign or of conservatives in general.

OK, If the LA Times put this out there just has to be a sinister reason for it. Because all they have been doing up to this article, is dumping on Simon!
Especially over the Jury award to the convicted Big Drug Kingpin!
For the true facts on that, see this:
Trial evidence belies (Simon) fraud charges ,/a>

Maybe their "collective" consciences are bothering them.(/sourchasm)

I rather doubt it. Tony Quinn, the editor of the ostensibly non-partisan California Target Book has a hit piece on Simon inside today's Opinion section in the Sunday Times. He thinks Simon will lose cause he's an amateur who doesn't know how to run a campaign and for him the bottom line is the voters wouldn't consider any one for Governor who claimed he didn't know about a drug smuggler's past. This is a highly partisan judgment that passes for conventional political wisdom among California's liberal punditariat. You can be sure of one thing: the Slimes and the rest of the media will never allow a kind word about Simon to go on their op-ed pages. That's why we need Ann Coulter to point out this kind of bias.

"He thinks Simon will lose cause he's an amateur"Good Grief... That's exactly what CA NEEDS!!!
After the professional "Experience that money can't buy," provided by the deplorable, despicable, defalcating, dimbulb, Davis, a business leader is exactly what is needed to stabilize the troubled economic waters of the world's 5th largest economy!!!
"Punditariat." What a perfect way to put it!!! I guess you din't see the deliburitly mis-spelled (/sourchasm) after my pathetic comment, didja? I like to tweak-torque the spelling nazis at every opportunity. The more slovenly, the better.(grin)
Heck, we need more than Ann Coulter! That's what's wrong with us! We conservatives are too busy to bust these biased media monsters with their blizzard of bileous slanted pukings! If we'd take time to send 'em sumthin other than automated e-mail to complain and really help 'em see how biased it's coming across, they might eventually at least think about it once in a while. The envirocrazies have groomed them for years. Of course, many of them went to the same schools and were indoctrinated by the same Commonist Professors.
Now there's yer danged "Professionals!" (They evun gots Tenyear! Cain't vote them out!)
