The union spent $1.4 on media ads for Davis when he got elected. They are either number 1 ot 2 in contributions to state officials.

The worst part of this is that they can contribute to the same politicians they negotiate their contract with. No conflict of interest there, just free speech.

In addition to the great pay, they can go into most legislator's offices and enter new legislation into the system. And they are practically running the departments of corrections and the youth authority. Oh well! Who cares?

Right now, the highest salary for a prison guard is $54,888. By linking guards to CHP salaries, some estimates say guard pay could rise to $73,428.

With overtime many will make $100,000.

$74,000 as a prison guard ! ? !

And to think I spent 6 years in college for an MBA and am barely making $50K ! ? !

Time for a career change, though I don't know if I could stand to live in Peoples Republic of Kalifornia for any amount of money

Another "Davis doesn't care about the future" agreement. No increase for the next two years, gigantic increases for the next three.

This guy has a six month time horizon; after that, he just doesn't care.

How the heck did we manage to elect a boring, colourless leader who can't think ahead?

Even the LA Times reported this one:

I never fail to be amazed at how every time a corrupt politician character appears in a big Hollywood movie, he's invariably stated or implied to be a Republican, whereas no better examples of corrupt politicians exist than those provided by the Democratic party; Clinton, Grey Davis, Willie Brown, ad nauseum. Of course, I know the reason why. It's just so galling. I keep hoping in vain that more of the populace will finally notice the discrepancy and do something about it.

... 37 percent pay increase for guards.

Sheesh, must be nice. Only in the "Public" Sector.
