Politics: Shelter is under IRS scrutiny. Candidate is expected to reshuffle staff again after White House prodding.
SANTA BARBARA -- Republican gubernatorial nominee Bill Simon Jr. on Monday declined to say how much he saved in state and federal income taxes by using a tax shelter under legal challenge by the Internal Revenue Service.
Simon, a wealthy Pacific Palisades businessman, described the tax shelter as an "investment transaction" proposed by his accountants at KPMG, but would not say how it worked.

The LAT continues to try smear Simon while failing to report on any of Davis' scandals.

There's nothing wrong with taking advantage of a legitimate tax shelter. Naturally the L.A Slimes and the government want you to fork over ever cent you earn and aren't worried about how you'll support yourself afterwards.

The Democrats have got the IRS looking into this. Don't worry. /sarcasm

"his campaign again faced pressure from the White House to retool its staff to more assertively tackle incumbent Democrat Gray Davis."
Someone needs to tell Bush to keep his and Rove's nose out of California politics.
I think Simon is doing the proper thing at this point, solidifying his base through organizations in the state and letting Davis self distruct. A campaign to sell the sheeple now would be totally ineffective and a waste of money. Davis making his attacks now is accomplishing nothing but giving Simon name id and gaining him votes.

"Do We Have Any Hopes For Debates ? "
I read the other day where Duffus had agreed to debates and the campaigns were to meet to discuss ground rules.

"...declined to say how much he saved in state and federal income taxes by using a tax shelter under legal challenge by the Internal Revenue Service..."At the same time, they let Tom Dasschle slide right on by w/ all of non-reporting of his 'Tax Shelters'.
