They're certainly frustrated by what I'm sure they view as an "intolerable" political situation.

Bingo.

In military parlance, the smear campaign being waged in the press against Bush would be known as 'pre-emptive' warfare.

The Democrats and their media puppets are worried that Bush is about to steal, co-opt or neutralize, yet another wedge "issue". The goal is to keep Bush from gaining the moral highground on corporate sleaze.

Only one problem with this: Polls show that, on questions of morals and ethics, Bush already gets extraordinarily high marks, despite month after month of media efforts to tar him with the Enron brush.

Yes, that's right. They're very afraid that Bush will preempt another of their favorite democratic issues. After all, nothing else is working, and Bush even appears to be smart enough to address the issue repeatedly (for the benefit of our media-numbed culture) and head on (to give the impression that he has absolutely nothing to hide).

This has to gall them to no end. After all, Bush is, in their estimation, a simpleton. He couldn't possibly have enough smarts to make their moral posturing obvious.
