SAPPI Paper Mills went completely smoke free 1 July as well. The employees were told that if they "are caught smoking ANY where on the grounds, they will be terminated!" The reason may be a practical one. Litter. Smokers,as a group, are very filthy. Cigarette butts all over the entranceways, and all over the lawns. The butts far outnumber any other scrap of trash. Maybe the corporations just got tired of cleaning it up.
Don't like it? You can always work elsewhere.

When they get around to banning your personal vice, I hope someone stands up for you.

There is more than one reason, and it varies by organization.

Did you ever think that the companies are just as much at fault as the smokers?
The companies make their workforce go outside to smoke and don't provide ashtrays, saying FU to the smokers.
The smokers recprocate by messing the place up saying FU to the company.
