I joined a smoke free company a few months ago. Not a big deal. Smoke one on the way to work, one at lunch, and one on the way home. The shop forman parks across the street at lunch.

I believe the company get insurace discounts for being smoke free. At the last company I was at there was a handful of smokers that abused the smoking policy, some were smoking twice an hour, and as long as you smoked even one a day there was nothing you could say to them.

I don't think I need to go over my curriculure vitae with you. After I was discharged in 69, I did get a degree. Now I own 6 rentals in Seattle, and part interest in two Alaskan fishing boats, one a trawler, the other a salmon boat. And yes I also have a real job, but plan on retireing in twO years. My wife of 24 years is an MD, so I am well awasre of the links between smokIng and heart disease and cancer. Waskishi, you can find a dozen studies on the web if you bother. It boils down to people with very little education and a low income dominate the ranks of smokers. Oh, but that't right, you only agree with studies that agree with your little mindset.

Listen, I'm getting a little damned tired of being accused of a low income, uneducated boob that smokes.

My husband is a smoker. He fought in Viet Nam for this Country, and brought home TWO Purple Hearts. He served 25 years and is now working as an Accountant with a Government Finance Agency.

I worked as a Travel Agent for the Government and am a self taught computer programmer. So for us, your stats are a bit off base. So I say give it a rest, how about it.

I agree - What good are Unions?? I have asked the union to help me. I agree with no smoking policies in the work place. I work on an assembly line, and am forced to work across and next to people who smoke. It is not the same as going into a restaurant or bar, I am able to leave those places by my own free will. But not at work. I cannot leave my station without being disciplined by management. The "union" says there is nothing they can do to help me. This is the ultimate form of discrimination. I am not standing for it, and have taken steps to remedy the situation myself. Three cheers for GM in Michigan. Now if my own GM plant would follow suit!!

At one time in my early life, I worked at Packard Electic, and I made wire harnesses on a line for vehicles. That was many moons ago, and even back then, we were not permitted to smoke at our stations. But the plant did provide a nice break room where we went to have coffee and our cigarettes.

When we got ahead on our work, then we took our breaks back at the break-room. This is fair. And if there are non-smokers who wish not to be around smokers, provide them with their own little break-room as well. Worked great.
