Governments say they are raising cigarette taxes not just to increase revenue, but also to discourage smoking. Tobacco companies argue that higher taxes encourage smuggling.

Chief Wallace shrugged and lighted another cigarette. "If they're so bad, make them illegal," he said. "In the meantime, leave me alone."

God bless the Chief and the Reservations. Good for them!

The glutton states have forced smokers into going elsewhere, and not paying this enormous taxes they put upon us!

Mr. Green pointed out that the number of tobacco-related investigations conducted by the bureau increased to 71 in the country in 2001 from 6 in 1998.

I can't imigane why. /sarcasm
Could it be - THE TAXES?
Just wait until they see the number of tobacco investigations for 2003!

Joe! We all know this is getting WAY out of hand! It's really getting ugly with the Government. Someone "UP" there in a high seat really hates us!

Looks like the chief has a much clearer understanding of freedom than us palefaces. I hope he gets a few scalps before this is over.
My machine should be here in a couple days, no more legalized theft from me.

Don't mean to sound ugly, but you KNOW where she can stick those cigars, right?!

Some paragraphs removed. Click on link to read in it's entirety. I am not sure if we are allowed to use the New York Times. But I feel this is important information for our people to read.

Just FYI, we can post NYT stories without worry. They seem to be intelligent enough to realize that having their articles posted here actually drives traffic to their site, and also gives their reporters big ego boosts when a Freeper decides his/her article is worth reposting.

I loathe the NYTimes! How dare they talk about the morality of anything. I don't like my tax dollars going to support the killing of babies, same sex programs, and countless other immoral activities that the looney liberal left supports! Screw them!!!!

One can only hope that ALL smokers buy elsewhere. I suspect that if the guvmint couldn't make a penny off of tobacco they'd atteempt to make it illegal.

Found the good metal machine for $30, got enough tubes and tobacco for a couple cartons as the tobacco prices seemed a little high. Got any links for refill kits SheLion?

Last December, the United States Supreme Court refused to hear a challenge to a lower court decision granting Indian sovereignty in this matter . . .

"Please to thank heaven that the U.S. Suh-preem Cawt uphold Indian sovereignty," said Raj Patel, who expects his chain of convenience stores to grow in number from 3 to 3,000 in the next 12 months, thereby driving every reservation in New York state out of business.

/sarcasm off/

You know what, Steve? I buy tobacco and filtered tubes from the local Smoke Shop. The Shop N'Save Grocery Stores also sell tubes and tobacco. Don't you have someplace local where you can shop?
