And there is a paragraph in the Tribune article stating that there is a law passed in 1993(when the demos had control of both Houses of Congress and the Presidency) that forbade any president from witholding funding.

I was under the impression that: (and I should have followed more closely I know)

1) Dubya came out firmly against this.

2) He hasn't publically changed his position.

Now, is that accurate or not?

I saw the thread Askel posted the other day and was aware of what happened, but thanks for the flag anyway. Its an absolute atrocity, but what does anyone expect? Life has been reduced to the point that it is basically valueless. We have completely embraced the culture of death in this society. And wait until the baby boom generation gets old. There will not be enough people paying into the social security system and you are going to see a push for euthanasia like never before when people can't pay their medical bills. And why not? Its just some mere animal or complex machine--not like a human being with dignity or anything.

I would suggest you read the article more clearly, but you have an agenda so you won't read something if it exposes you as a liar.

You make it sound like Bush is violating his pledge of last year and he is not. The life and death decision HAS ALREADY BEEN MADE IN THIS SITUATION. He is not supporting further abortions to perform stem-cell research.

If it was illegal not to fund the NIH already, then why the big stew earlier last year? It was a big deal around here and his speech was well analyzed. He compromised the issue and gave something to both sides. I guess the prolifeers should be grateful!

What are the details behind the legal prohibition on Executive action to block the funding?

If they are real, has any effort been made to circumvent them? Could the defenders of life make gains here, and is there any chance of getting political support either in Congress or from the administration?

It would seem that exploitation of the corpse of an 8 week old unborn would be abhorrent to more people than the same thing with a much smaller and younger embryonic child.

Any help you give would be appreciated.

Maybe you can explain it to me, but I don't understand this situation. If the President cannot withhold funding for stem-cell research, then why was there such a brouhaha over Bush's speech over an year ago about using the already aborted fetal stem line. If the President could not withhold funding, then why was his situation such a big deal? Someone please explain how this works.
