I like your screen name, NR. Sounds like you're a man who would agree that it's time to take a little action on this -- starting with the easiest target: the tobacco tax.

Smokers, Fight Back!

Why Let California Soak You For Discriminatory Tobacco Taxes?

Low Prices, High Quality And No Taxes Are As Close And Easy As Your Telephone, Fax, Mailbox Or Computer!

I've done business with the following online/mail order companies for about 3 years. They're all rock-solid. They save me about $2k/year on my smoking costs. They are respectively in North Carolina, Ohio, Massachusetts and Illinois, so there are no state taxes on anything and California gets completely cut out of the deal. I spend anywhere from 80 cents to $1.20 per pack, depending on what I'm rolling. Takes me 10-15 minutes each morning to crank out a pack. Or you can do it in the evening while you watch the news on FNC.

The quality of these tobaccos and papers is way beyond anything sold in a pack. Never stale and not a trace of harshness. Also, the cigarette goes out if you put it down for more than about a minute (no chemicals to keep it burning), so it doesn't burn down in the ashtray.

Print out or photocopy this info and give it to everyone you know who smokes. Make extra copies for them to give out to their smoking friends. None of them needs to be online. They can order by mail, phone or fax is they want. It's time to stop letting ourselves get soaked by the state taxman!

Mark Ryan sells about 7 different cigarette tobaccos and will gladly send you free samples of all of them (phone them), so you can try before you buy -- enough of each variety to roll up a pack. My favorites are American Gold (mild Virginia), Ramback (authentic Turkish) and Old Timer (a very nice chip-cut). They also have a menthol blend that you can mix with other tobaccos if you like. If you want to roll out filter kings, get one of their 78 mm hand rollers and a half dozen extra belts (the seams fail after a few months).

If you like a "European" style tobacco, Carey's has Peter Stokkabye #93 Amsterdam Shag in the 10.6 oz. tin @ $14.65 (or 3 tins @ $41.76). I have yet to meet anybody who doesn't like this tobacco.

Larry Lynn is a gem. He ordinarily caters to the cigar crowd, but is very nice about helping us cigarette types. Call him at the toll-free number and tell him a guy online told you he got the following prices and you'd like to follow suit.

Rayo cigarette filter plugs, 25 bags (200 plugs per bag) @ $37.50 + $6 shpg.

"Smoking" (brand name) De Luxe extra-thin rice papers, 100 books (50 leaves per book) @ $82.50 + $6 shpg. (These 78 mm papers are just the best.)

John offers the 5-pound tub of "Turkish Special" (the real thing from Turkish monopoly, same distributor) @ $59.95 plus $7 shipping. This is the best price I've seen for this great little tobacco. Since he does business in Massachusetts, he has to be more careful than others, so he asks that you fax him a color xerox of your current driver's license with your first order. This is to ensure that he's not set up and busted for selling to a minor. You can black out any non-essential info on the copy of your license.

I can't blame anybody for trying to avoid taxes on the tobacco.

Most of the upper 2% whose income taxes will be raised are also called "EMPLOYERS"!
In the end I think that will also have a bad effect on the job market and economy here as employers feel frustrated here in California.
