BILL SIMON STATEMENT ON 9TH CIRCUIT COURT RULING ON PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Simon for Governor | 6/26/2002 | Simon for Governor

Posted on 06/26/2002 5:27:01 PM PDT by SunStar

Decision is an ‘insult’ to Americans.

LOS ANGELES Gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon today released the following statement regarding the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision on the Pledge of Allegiance.

"I have spent the last week talking to veterans about their issues and promoting reforms I believe will do justice to their service. I believe this decision is an insult to all Americans particularly our veterans.

"Today in fact, I learned of the decision while I was touring a veteran’s facility - a veteran’s transitional living facility whose purpose it is to continue to help those who really sacrificed and served our country in the most fundamental way by putting their lives at risk.

"I am truly shocked and troubled by this decision. In my opinion, it’s just plain wrong.

"When I was an Assistant United States Attorney, I worked hard every day to defend our Constitution and our laws. As a private citizen and hopefully as your Governor, I look forward to doing everything I can to defend one of our country’s great traditions: our Pledge of Allegiance."

My sweet little third child, my son, who is now a 200 lb. 18 year old!... said today, when he heard about this, "If we keep giving in, every time someone complains, that won't be good! We can't just give in all the time whenever someone complains!" He was actually listening to the radio when they announced this. He is, at least, seeing Liberal Utopians for what they are, and I didn't have to say a word!!! They also said on the radio that this is why presidential elections are so important -- to get conservative judges who don't do such stoooopid things!

I support the Court's decision wholeheartedly, so long as those who refuse to recite agree to publish their names and addresses here on FR.....

I believe this decision is an insult to all Americans particularly our veterans.

This is nothing but pure HorseHillary. I'm a vet who is a non-believer,and I don't give a damn about this one way or the other. Are veterans somehow supposed to be more religious than other Americans?

BTW,the part about "under God" wasn't even added until 1954,so people need to lighten up about this being "the end of civilization as we know it".

I honestly don't understand either set of fundies on this. Why would the bible-thumpers feel better from knowing non-believers were being forced to parrot words they don't even believe? As for the fundie atheists, why get your panties in such a bunch of having to mouth what are meaningless words to you?

The people in this guy's neighborhood should stand on the sidewalk in front of his house in shifts and recite the Pledge of Allegence and sing God Bless America until this a$$hole is no longer offended

What does he see self-described "conservaties" for who think this would be a Utophia if they could only force non-believers to babble what amounts to religious nonsense to them?

He's still trying to figure out which way the wind is blowing. Typical Democrat M.O.
