[history]
An increasingly nasty brawl in the California GOP is quickly spinning into a public embarrassment that some Republicans say threatens the party's biggest goal -- electing businessman Bill Simon governor.
The troubles involve state party chairman Shawn Steel and conservative backers who have focused their wrath on influential presidential adviser Gerald Parsky -- architect of a Republican reorganization designed to help the state GOP better appeal to moderates, women and Latinos.

We have to hope Bill Simon will stick by his base that elected him and not turn his campaign over to Gerry Parsky and his allies.

That should say that "nominated" him not "elected" him. Getting a little ahead of myself. GO BILL GO!!!

Whenever a "news" article is merely about a situation the writer implies COULD cause trouble for some Republican, that's 100% proof that the article is a hit piece by a Democratic author, not actual news.

We have to hope Bill Simon will do the right thing and listen to the right people.
He has been such an inspiring voice for the GOP during the past year he has been on the political scene.
I hope he recognizes that if he listens to the wrong crowd that he will alienate his base and lose in November. The people who voted for him, are most enthusiastic for him, and will make up the majority of his vote will be the people who supported him in the primary.
Those are the people he should be allied with. Certainly not Gerry Parsky and the "reformers" we keep reading about who are making changes to his campaign. Let's hope they don't do for Simon what they did for Riordan.

We took a terrible beating in California in the last election because our candidates were much too far on the right," Ford said. "It's only when we got pushed way over to the far right that we lost. And we aren't going to win again till we get back in the middle, period."So by Ford's logic he is too far to the right of Reagan, Nixon and Bush, because he lost and they won?

The most ironic part of this whole thing is that Simon has been running the compassionate-conservative type of campaign the Parskyites claim they want. And with Simon leading in the polls, why are they insisting on fixing something that ain't broke??

I smell Bush & Rove here & I certainly do not like it. Ten years from now I see no viable Pubbie party with their views.

I'm not even sure what views (that Simon doesn't already hold) it is they're trying to advance. It seems more like a power & money struggle to me. Maybe now that Simon's polls numbers are rising, their doubts about his ability to win are subsiding, and they decided now is the time to get the Parskyites in positions of power.
