"Get ready for some crow."Well, it can't taste any worse than the armadillo that used to eat on field exercises.

Nicely done.

Witholding a vote for Bush means one less vote the Democratic candidate will need.He should consider that before he betrays us. Gun control is my #1 issue. If you are for it in any way you are my political enemy and I will not vote for you regardless of your positions on other issues.

Tell your guy to start acting like a compassionate CONSERVATIVE and he might earn my vote. I thought you already made the claim that no way would he earn your vote short of veto of the assault weapons ban.
No vote for Bush = Advantage Gore/Kerry/Hillary
I know what's more important. Giving an advantage to Democrats certainly does not advance a conservative agenda no matter how much you think it's important to stick to ideology.

I do not plan to vote for Bush in 2004. He disappoints me greatly. I simply do not agree with most of the legislation he has supported. It's all big spending. I am particularly incensed at his attitude toward immigration. He may pick up a few percents among hispanics but he will lose much more than that in conservative votes.

Dang, you got the armadillo? The fresh stuff?
We had to make do with two-year-old dehydrated rat.

As I said, the evangelicals were not turning out in the numbers that were expected by Bush and Rove. So they are going to try to make up the difference. Why are you so surprised? Politicians have their pride, too.
If you won't work for them, why should they work for you?

Yup. They found that it wasn't going to get them any markers from "the base," so they decided to not bother. PRINCIPLES!!!
I got principles for sale here!
Principles! Only 1 "marker" needed to purchase some PRINCIPLES!
To: hchutch
Do you think anyone will stick their neck out if they are not getting backup? No, I don't think they will But, I can dream of a world where they would.

I thought you already made the claim that no way would he earn your vote short of veto of the assault weapons ban.I'm very close to a single-issue voter, but I can be swayed if enough other issues pile up.
My vote is earned. Your guy must earn it. Vetoing the AW reauthorization will go a long way to doing that.

You're quoting Karl Rove, of all people!? He's the architect of this fiasco! Are you kidding me!? To quote Michael Savage, "Republicrats, Demicans, they're all the same!"
To: Lazamataz
A candidate has to be credibly conservative to get my vote. Well let's see a tax cut, dropping out of the International court, saying no to Kyoto, stating that the 2nd amendment is an individual right, etc. etc.
I look at the whole picture and considering he has a dashole led Senate, I would say that he is doing a pretty good job.
But like I told Doughty last night there are some people who are not "happy" unless they are miserable and will look for misery in every little corner. You seem to also be one of those people.

LOL! Nice!
Sarcasm often makes the points that level-headed discussion cannot.

"Have you ever noticed the FreeRepublic phenomenon where the lower your Free Republic ID# is, the more likely you are to Bush bash?"I've got an ID number for FreeRepublic? I didn't know that ...
Does that pi$$ off the Libertarians as much as the prospective National ID does?

They found out that the PRINCIPLES they acted on did not turn into VOTES from the allegedly PRINCIPLED "base."
Gosh, I'm sorry you expect the Republicans to do what you want without anything in return from you.
Here, let's work something out from your definition of "principles." Give me $10,000.

The qeustion is, will you work for a House or Senate that will keep the bill from getting to his desk in the first place? A GOP House kept that gun-show bill from becoming law in much worse circumstances. You can thank Tom DeLay for that one.
Let's give the leaders like DeLay more numbers and support. Otherwise, why should the Republicans take a risk for you? Let's see somebackup and work to get the numbers to beat thelegislation back in the first place before we start declaring political war here.
Or am I asking too much?
