I see you're still taking the NYT as gospel.
The report said no such thing. The report used qualifiers such as likely and mostly when it said that global warming may be caused by humans. It further stated, repeatedly, that that conclusion is preliminary and subject to change. This is basically the same position that the president took a year ago.
The report further stated that there will be no policy change.
After the Chicken Littles were hit in the head by an acorn (the report) and ran around screaming, "The sky is falling, the sky is falling," Bush was asked about it and he referred to the report as having been done by the burocracy and emphatically stated, in no uncertain terms, that Kyoto is out of the question.
So you agree with Bush's position, then.
If more of today's scientists actually had integrity and intellectual honesty, they would acknowledge that there is in fact enough data to reach a fairly sound scientific conclusion. And the conclusion is this: man's effect upon global temperatures is not really measureable, and is in all likelihood nonexistent. At best, it is pure guesswork.
The reason why so many scientists refuse to honestly acknowledge this conclusion should be pretty obvious. Government funded global warming research has become an industry. A not insignificant percentage of the employees at NASA have in fact made it their life's work. To acknowledge the truth would quite probably mean and end to the gravy train, and having to find a new career is just not easy for most people.
Makes sense, unfortunately.
