Do you propose the elimination of all military and law enforcement, then?

Re #25

Clean up and reorganise is what I heard Bush say.If his "plan" works, the feds will get smaller and more focussed and a lot of deadweight ROAD employees will get gone.

It is incorrect to say a government employeee can not be fired. It is difficult, requires massive paperwork and attention, but it is done every day.

If Bush can pull this off, I will rethink a variety of his domestic policies which I detested, and factor them in in light of this goal.

I heard the same speach. It sounded quit different to me. I heard that they all had their budgets, just who is reporting to whom has changed ... Eliminate the turf wars ... Lofty goal. Hope it works.

Great screen name.

Right on Rodney!!!

I'm already getting weary of references to Harry Truman. I knew Harry Truman who was nothing but a County Commissioner in a corrupt county before being made V.P. Harry was not my friend, but Harry would probably expand the government AFTER he nuked the state sponsors of terrorism aka "The Axis of Evil!"

We need some world leadership and this isn't it!!! No guts, no glory for a "world power" that has created the most powerful military in history with nuclear subs that are powerless, neutered by political correctness and European opinion mis-labled "world opinion."

I'm yawning and totally un-inspired by this waste of political capital. This is totally disheartening for this American Citizen!!!

This is debasing the value of my citizenship as well as my individual freedom. HE'S BRINGING FEMA INTO THIS ARRANGEMENT!

This reminds me of Gray Davis and his never revoking the emergency powers after the energy crisis was over. Government by perpetual emergency edicts over never ended crises is not the democratic process in our republic. There's no end in sight!!!

Unfortunately, many Bush bashers fail to see the difference and bash

Many of them are liberals that think they are using conservative rhetoric to prove a point. All they do is demonstrate they have no real idea what they are talking about.

They believe that like the rhetoric of their agenda based on logical fallacies and feel good theories that they are showing us the inconsistancies of ours. Unfortunatley for them all they demonstrate is their ingnorance.

If it doesn't it won't be because he didn't try -- he has to deal with some heavy duty labor unions within the govt

That sure didn't stop Ronald Reagan.
When the air-traffic controllers went on strike, he FIRED their butts!!!

No.

Neither am I for completely consolidating them under one umbrella, either. In less scrupulous hands, it can be used against ordinary Americans as much as it's intended to be used against terrorist activity.

I saw it the same way. The main power given to the government is defense. It's all the other agencies that should go, ei, education, welfare, irs, ad nauseum. If we aren't safe, what good will social security or any of the other programs going to do us? And how will we support anything, including ourselves, if we open ourselves to more terrorist activities?

Who would have thought this could happen?

You don't know what is going to happen. You're fear-mongering, throwing red meat to the permanently disgruntled.

And, judging from the responses, you're not succeeding.

Used against us like Janet Reno did at Ruby Ridge and Waco??? It wasn't the soldiers, it was the ones calling the shots.

Bush is consolidating the shot callers.

OK I've now reviewed the list of changes. You're nuts. There's not one drop of expansion. Just getting agencies that are attached to national defense on a functional level (something the fed is SUPPOSED to be doing) and moving them all together into one department. I suppose you could sell it as expansion because there'll be a new department, but all of its agencies (and budget) are being transfered from existing areas.

Another less scrupulous president can pretty much do whatever they want regardless of the structure. Clinton proved that already.

"It is with great reluctance that I have agreed to this calling. I love democracy... I love the Republic. The fact that this crisis is demanding I be given absolute power to rule over you is evident. But I am mild by nature and have no desire to destroy the democratic process. The power you give me I will lay down when this crisis has abated, I promise you. current term of office is over, you allow me to reture and live out my life in peace."

Well then you shouldn't be calling yourself a "geezer", you young scamp.
