From other threads we hear that Davis is looking a little peaked!

The California Court of Appeal in Los Angeles also said state workers could be paid only the federal minimum wage if the Legislature and Gov. Gray Davis fail to come up with a budget when the new fiscal year begins. OMG...

a new budget by the July 1 deadline Hold that line, boys--
Hold that line!

Has anyone thought to do an audit to see how much the state has been paying in 'entitlements' to illegal immigrants. Oh, sorry, I forgot that would be politically incorrect.
I'm so glad I don't live in Wackyfornia.

Connell said she would appeal the decision to the state Supreme Court. If I am not mistaken, isn't the state Supreme Court mostly a pack of liberal scumbags who really have no use for laws and Constitutions which interfere with the liberal Democrats' socialist agenda?
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
But judges from the Court of Appeal said Connell had no authority to spend money without an authorized budget. They did say, however, that the state could continue funding federally mandated programs such as welfare and food stamps, and pay workers at the federal minimum wage -- $5.15 an hour. You mean there would be consequences if the legislature and executive didn't obey the law? What a novel idea!

Facing a deficit of more than $23 billion, lawmakers and the governor are expected to wage a lengthy battle over how to fill the gap by July.But...But...There'll still be money for welfare and reparations, right?

The governor is a Democrat; the legislature are democrat. What, do you think, is the hold up? I mean, other than holding up taxpayers as one would hold up a bank?
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
How about no budget, no per diem/pay for the legislature? I think we could solve the lack of action real soon...

Power crisis. Campaign funding illegalities. Oracle contract debacles. Idiotic proposed laws drawing major fire from the constituents. Now this. Gray Davis and the Democrats must wake up each day now wondering what fresh hell awaits them. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of folks.
What will be interesting with this development is that it's going to give the Republicans a stronger hand when it comes to the budget. The state constitution requires a 2/3 vote to pass the budget, and there are just enough Republicans left to constitute a roadblock if they hang together. If they have the backbone to use this power, they might be able to wring some spending cuts out of the Democrats.

Assuming that Davis will get
every Democrat vote in both the Senate and the Assembly,
he will still need four (4) Republican votes in the Assembly to pass a budget! My guess is that our wimpy Republicans will give it to him!

ROFL. Can you imagine how much crap we will hear when the DMV workers and schoolteachers start making less than the McDonald's employees?
It's gonna be fun to watch the rats squirm. They will undoubtedly try to nail us taxpayers for the bulk of the deficit, but the pols will squirm over it, and we won't forget it come November (and they know it!).
Aha, this is going to be fun.
