Bess Edwards met her great-aunt only once but remembers that the woman looked nothing like the famous female sharpshooter of legend.

An actress would play Annie, and teach riding and safe shooting.

If she's looking for federal and state grants, I have a feeling
there will be a problem with the shooting lessons.

Last year in the 4th grade, my daughter portrayed Annie Oakley in her schools annual "wax museum". I am happy
to report that the principal actually allowed her to wear a toy gun and holster while she recited her 2 minute speech.

It still amazes me that a hundred pound woman can handle a shotgun for the amount of rounds it takes to be an expert.

No offense to the late great Phoebe Ann Mosey, but some of her show demonstrations were not exactly what one would encourage as safe gun handling. To be sure, she was good enough to shoot cigarettes out of people's mouths, but such stunts don't exactly fit with the normal rules of gun safety.

BTW, Edison shot some movie footage of the real "Annie Oakley"; I saw a few clips on a video about her.

That actress pictured on the "Annie Get Your Gun" poster might have had some trouble shouldering a rifle... :-)

"...such stunts don't exactly fit with the normal rules of gun safety."

You go to the NRA for gun safety lectures; you went to see Annie Oakley for entertainment.
