Open America's borders now!!!!
Me | Now | Me

Posted on 04/06/2002 10:29:59 PM PST by paul544

I think America needs to open its borders to Mexico so that there is not even a border patrol. America is the land of opportunity and freedom. That should be the case for EVERYONE. Not just those that are citizens. There should be nothing seperating people from the opportunity that America offers. It is wrong not to share the wealth America has.

Then it seems to me that people should lay off Bush as he tries to slowly bring these same people over to our side. We can either take our marbles and go home, or we can accept things as they are and try to change them. Bush tries to reach out to these people and all he gets is grief. Give them a chance to see the "right" side of things.

"broad brush", try "realistic brush".

This topic has been covered in depth here on FR. Many people have seen $20/hour jobs fall to $8/hour due to the illegal influx.

I am in the computer science industry. We have seen country governments, especially India, give their people quick programming lessons and ship them here, courtesy of American companies, for cut rate jobs. Of course, a professional in India who makes $10,000 (USD) a year in India is more than willing to work for $20,000 (USD) here in America. These people live in small apartments, but even those dwellings are better than what they had in India.

You really need to study economics and specifically tariffs.

You have made my point in one post as I have apparently not been able to do in 312.

Howdy

OK let honesty prevail.

Your gratuitous assertion that I oppose immigration entirely is without merit.

To be perfectly honest, you are, by any measure of your own words, utterly devoid of the capacity to address the serious concerns I raised, and your response is a pathetic attempt to undermine the credibility of the source of the argument with which you are unequipeed to contend.

I wish I had put money on my bet that you would respond, if at all, in this craven fashion.

But to remain entirely truthful, there is not a whit of intellectual substance to your assertion that we are undeserving of a southern border, so joining me in intellectually sound debate on this matter is an impossibility.

What recourse have you but to try to discredit the messenger that carries the truth when the argument you advance is wholly vapid?

Paul, as I understand your post, you are essentially advocating that Mexico and Canada becom ports of legal entry into the US. Which means, as one poster so succinctly put it, that without borders, we would have no country. The world would pour in, and nobody would have anything. Mexico does not now allow Americans the freedom to come into their country, work and buy property and vote in their elections. If they did, Americans would soon turn beautiful Mexico into such a thriving economy that their citizens wouldn't want to leave. The answer to the world's problems is not to bring their socialism into this country but to allow our free enterprise into theirs. First and foremost of course is FREEDOM. Whithout which they will all remain third world havenots.

No need. I am in MIS myself and my company just announced that most future JAVA work will be moved "offshore". It was met with a great howl of discontent. It is tough to see an upside to that, except for the fact that you would not be complaining if India was coming to America looking for planes or computers or Chevys. That is just fine, but not the other way around. I seem to understand economics better than you. I at least recognize that in order for us to afford all these nice things we have, we can't pay a premium for them. How many things in your house were made in China? And do you really think you could afford most of them if they were made by an American making $20 an hour?

You wish to destroy this country with your Open America's borders now CRAP! A country with no borders is in fact no country at all. You have to have borders and keep out the undesirables. It is our last line of defense. Just like the door to my home is meant to keep out those who would do me harm. Lets not make it easy for the bad guys to come in and steal our lives and our fortunes.

Exactly! And when the borders are gone, American ingenuity and free enterprise permiate(sp) Mexico and we have an entire continent with unrivaled power and prosperity.

I honestly don't know what you are talking about. I have answered as many post as honestly as I can. If you have taken my post to you, which I don't remember, the wrong way, I can't help that.

Howdy

I gave you a long list of reasons why your idea is bad and rather than engaging a single point against your argument honestly, you impugned me as a xenophobe opposed to all immigration.

You could apologize, or alternatively, actually attempt to support your argument with evidences of thoughtful activity.

Like, perhaps... The possible merits of offering Mexico statehood? I think that is a non starter from both Mexican and USA perspectives, but is at least a far more tenable position than that the People of the United States of America should feel a cumpulsion to deprive ourselves of our sovereignty.

Such a compulsion is better treated with antidepressants than self destructive legislation.
