Open America's borders now!!!!
Me | Now | Me

Posted on 04/06/2002 10:29:59 PM PST by paul544

I think America needs to open its borders to Mexico so that there is not even a border patrol. America is the land of opportunity and freedom. That should be the case for EVERYONE. Not just those that are citizens. There should be nothing seperating people from the opportunity that America offers. It is wrong not to share the wealth America has.

I don't know if I would go as far as you, but I'll add my voice in support of your basic premise of Mexican/American realtions. Mexico is an amazing place and I do not fear the Mexification of America. We could learn alot from these people - their civilization is much older. I'm not sure I want them all to be on our welfare, but the goal of a strong Mexican-American alliance is the future and a noble future at that.

Why don't you do something about this country? Right.

Where were you during the Recount of 2000? We were out on the streets, on the phones, on the radio, doing something.

You are joking of course! We are losing our country fast enough why hurry? No,I am not against immigration, but legal and orderly immigration not willy nilly. Don't you understand that if we did as you suggest we would no longer be the land of opportunity but we would become like anyother.

If it was California, I would have to conclude that he is the most unintelligent poster in FReeper history, or an anarchist.

If we were to follow through on this absolutely ridiculous idea of throwing open our borders to anyone and everyone who wants to come here, how would we be able to provide housing, food, jobs, water, electricity, classroom space, medical care, etc. to all of these people?

THANKS FOR YOUR CANDOR. It helps me understand much better where you are evidently coming from.

I don't like racism either. But getting tooooooo irate about it is tooooo close to taking on their racist attitudes, feelings, values. That's a danger every time we hate something--we are in danger of becoming what we hate.

The people at FR are a bit addicted to, worship at the idol of--LOGIC--and related "scientific" values. Phenomenological ways of knowing and learning are not always appreciated a great deal.

I agree that immigrants have brought great innovation, vigor, earnest labor, creativity, a richness in the varieties of their cultures etc. to the U.S. In fact, many of us ARE that diversity--such as myself--Great granddad Cherokee. Mother's dad German. Mother's mother a Scot. There's some English in there somewhere and God only knows what else. I was reared in New Mexico around Navajos by a full blood Danish step-dad.

I've been in Taipei and China for the last 15 years. I'm coming home to NM to help care for my Alzheimer's ridden mother. I'm trying to learn Spanish for the first time. My mother wouldn't tolerate it growing up because of her emotional insecurities around someone speaking a language she didn't know.

Anyway--just saying I love the diversity and respect a great deal what people of other cultures have added to the U.S.

By the same token, I don't know that now is a good time to just open the floodgates. Mainland China would love to send 300 million Chinese to the U.S. and TAKE US OVER in more ways than one. Central and South Americans by the millions would love to come to the U.S. I just don't think that's remotely practical in anything close to those numbers. . . .though I agree we could handle alot more than most people think if it was done intelligently, caringly, creatively, wisely.

An added problem now is that there are enough enemies wound up by satan eager to destroy us--any great increase in openness of our borders would mean a lot more suicide bombers would get in with the rest of the people. Are you willing to be responsible for many 100,000's of people in many different cities being killed because of that? I can't imagine that you are.

So what is the solution? Careful decisions by all concerned. The U.S.can be thought of as a goose that lays valuable eggs--though I don't think they are golden any more--we are a lot poorer in many ways than we used to be. BUT THE MAIN POINT IS THAT IT IS VERY POSSIBLE, MAYBE EVEN EASY TO KILL THE GOOSE THAT LAYS GOLDEN EGGS. That would benefit no one--least of all the poor just entering our country to make a new start.

Newcomers can only do well in a growing economy in an atmosphere of respect without threat from those who have lost their jobs and are looking for scapegoats to blame it on. MASSIVE amounts of newcomers would be counter productive in the current international situation based on economics alone. Add interrorism and it becomes really frightening for almost any thinking person. It would be too easy to have war in the streets of every city over such issues.

In terms of FR, I wouldn't lose sleep over a lot of the noise. People hereon have strong feelings and opinions--as you seem to have. They are not normally easily persuaded otherwise. It takes a LOT of information that they consider important and valid before they will change their minds.

Probably it's not worth your time to try more than a few paragraphs well worded with reasonable, balanced emotional tones.

Anyway--I wish for you and your extended family every blessing of a walk with God in His Grace, Love and provision. THANK YOU FOR THE HONOR OF this kind of dialogue with you. God bless you,

California is already lost, and has been bankrupted primarily from illegals.

You don't want immigration because you think America is meant for you and that's it. The American dream for me and no one else.

It's been said a million times. I'll make it a million and one times. We are not against legal immigration. We are against illegal immigration.

A border patrol is a form of intimidation.

That's the point.

I'd like you to address the non-Mexican illegals who come into the USA through the Mexican border ... such as Islamic terrorists. The US/Mexican border is notorious as a sieve ... and it launders illegals with harmful intentions toward our country.

Your head is in the sand.

I have no problem with anyone from anywhere coming over here to become patriotic, peaceable, happy, contented citizens. Umpteen thousands have already done so. Assimilation into the USA is no longer the primary motivation anymore, though. What we have instead is a radical Mexican idea called "reconquista," which is an attempt, through immigration, to lay the cultural foundation to establish a separate nation in the Southwest USA. This future nation is tentatively referred to as "Aztlan."

For you to be ignorant of it or untroubled by it, hurling road apples of abuse on me and others who think like me, calling us all manner of foul things, is histrionic immaturity, telling me that you are an impulse driven irritant who thrives on aggravating others.

You are irritating to your juniors and boring to your elders. Your arguments are a combination of fortune cookie philosophy, The Little Prince, Winnie the Pooh, and the usual surface scum skimmings of songs and themes made popular by various addle-headed pop stars.

The 9-11 terrorists didn't come in through the Mexican border - they didn't have to. The INS was incompetent enough for them not to bother.

However, there are many, many cells of undiscovered terrorists-to-be, and the Mexican border is the easiest way in if you want to be invisible.

BTW, ever see the Aztlan website? They don't want to be part of the US's tradition of freedom and opportunity. They just want to take California, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico and turn it into the northern state of Mexico. I have a BIG problem with that.

Yeah, I have read some of his balanced reasonable rhetoric

"Who gives a shit who you are"

"IDIOT"

"MORON"

"RACIST"

Sure sounds balanced and reasonable to me........
