Millions in Counterfeit Currency Found in Arafat’s Complex

Army Major-General Giora Eiland on Sunday confirmed that soldiers operating in Yasser Arafat’s Mukata headquarters in Ramallah found millions of shekels in counterfeit currency being held by the PA leader.

The currency was found in denominations of 100 and 200 shekel notes.

Also uncovered were the plates for printing the bills described as high quality forgeries.

Officials have learned that a good portion of the counterfeit money was used to buy stolen weapons from criminals in Israel.

My assumption was that the criminals selling the arms would know that they were getting counterfeit money (severly discounted from its apparent face value). They would have no compunction from passing it as real to their unsuspecting fellow Israelis. That's what criminals do.

Elyeza Bazna, the spy who sold secrets to the Germans out of the British embassy in Turkey under the code name "Cicero," learned this to his cost when the pounds he was paid turned out to be counterfeit.
