It doesn't take federal funding to make it easier for wetbacks to cross the border...does it? Something's wrong with this story. Are we going to pay Mexicans to come here? If not, then why does it take more money to ensure they get across the border more easily?

You misunderstand the story. The funding is not to help illegals. It's to make it easier and quicker legal border crossings. Keep in mind that every day tens of thousands of people legally cross the border. Bush just wants to upgrade our border facilities so that we can provide better service and security. If anything this will make it harder for smugglers to sneek people across the border.
